2; It Starts With a Hey

“And now, you will introduce yourselves to everyone in the class, to get yourself comfortable with your new classmates!” Our teacher announced after her thirty minute long speech, clapping her hands together in glee.

Obviously she was new. If I hadn’t mentioned before, I’ve been going to school with the same people since kindergarten and knew everybody. Nevertheless, I took this as a chance to finally talk to the new guy. I turned in my seat and held out my hand.

“Hey, I’m Ava,” I started as he shook my hand, “nice to meet you!”

He chuckled to himself.

“What’s so funny?” I asked, trying not to sound rude.

“It’s nothing. It’s just that,” gosh, his voice was so smooth, “I didn’t know people still shook hands.”

Great Ava, now he thinks you’re a freak.

“I’m Luke, by the way.”

“Are you new?” I questioned, already knowing the answer.

“Yeah, just moved here from Melbourne with my mates,” he explained with a smile.

“If you ever need a tour guide, I know my way around this city pretty well,” I attempted to flirt.

He smiled and nodded.

Time got away from us quickly because the bell rang a moment later. I gathered my books and met up with Scarlett in the hall.

“So, Ava’s got a boyfriend named Luke now,” she taunted, wagging her eyebrows at me. I rolled my eyes and continued to walk alongside her. “Oh, come on! I saw the way you were drooling, everyone did!”

“Oi, do you reckon Luke saw?” I worried aloud.

See! You’re already blushing when I talk about him!” She teased further, nudging her elbow into my side.

I shook my head and tried to calm the heat in my cheeks. Why was I acting like this? He was just a boy who’s last name I didn’t even know. Sure, he was cute and sure, his voice was like sex, but I’d only known him for all of ten minutes. Whatever.

I shook the thought of him out of my head and tried to continue on with my day.

I successfully kept Luke out of my head until my last class of the day. Of course he was in, not only one, but two, of my classes.

I picked a random seat and sat down. Not two seconds passed before Luke sat in the seat right next to mine.

“Hey Ava,” he greeted cheerfully.

“Hi Luke! How’s your day been?” I asked quickly, trying not to let silence take over.

“Good mostly,” he shrugged, “I’ve met tons of nice people.”

Nice for now. Of course they would be nice to him. He was just their type of people, minus the bad attitude and fake tan. He seemed the type of person who could get along with just about anybody. Guys would want to be him and girls would want to be on him. And sadly, I believe I was one of those girls.

“Listen, I was thinking about your offer to be a tour guide for me and my friends, would you still be willing to do that?” He pleaded with his perfect eyes.

“Of course, yeah. When?”

“Could you on Friday? O-or whenever you’re free,” he stumbled quickly over his words, seemingly holding his breath.

“That works for me,” I nodded, completely entranced with everything about him.

He let his breath go and sat back in his seat.

I really hope I’m not going to regret this.
