Hercules and Eliza told John that Alexander got engaged to Proffessional Douchebag™ Jefferson.
So he went to the place he would naturally find Alexander: the school library. It took some searching, since their library was huge, but he did.

"Suddenly Seymour, is standing beside you, you don't need no makeup, don't need to pretend"
He turned Alex's face towards him, dabbing his face with a tissue
"Suddenly Seymour is here to provide you sweet understanding, Seymour's your friend"
John pulled Alexander up into an embrace whilst standing, none of them aware how they got there, but never really thought about it. All that mattered was the healing of a broken heart, and the melting of all fears they had.
