Chapter One: Memories

Growing up she was always told that a rule in her family was "don't do something you'll regret" but her parents didn't live by that rule. She always just knew her three brothers and her mother. Only those three. She never met children her age, she never met her moms friends, or even her brothers friends. It was like they were cut off from the world.

She grew up in a small cottage along the side of a forest. The closest school was hours away and buses couldn't come to her house. A five year old mystery and her three brothers were sitting in the office room with there mom doing school work when mystery all the sudden asked "mommy, where's daddy?" for the first time.

The room gone completely silent. All three of her brothers looked at each other in complete shock and her mom looked down like that she was about to cry.

"Um sweetie, daddy isn't here." Her mother always told her when she asked that question but mystery never asked another question. She always jut replied with "okay mum."

Mystery constantly asked that question throughout her life time. But she always got the same answer "daddy isn't here." She knew that he wasn't here but where was he? He was never there. A couple years later when she was at the age of ten, she asked again and got the same answer but this time she asked more.

"But mom. He is never here. So what happened? You can tell me. Divorce is common. Deaths are common. What happened to dad?"

Her mom left the room crying and slammed the bedroom door. Mystery slumped in her chair at the dinner table and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Ooooo mystery broke a rule! Don't do something you'll regret doing!" Her 16 year old brother laughed at her. "She's gonna get in trouble."

"Shut Johnathan! It's not fair! All of you know but I don't!" Mystery yelled on top of her lungs at all three of them.

"I'll tell you." Her oldest brother, Jason said quietly.

"Tell me, tell me, tell me!" Mystery begged and stood up.

"An hour before you were born.... he was um...." Jason said and looked at her other brothers.

"He was....?" Mystery said getting a little impatient.

"Murdered." Jason whispered quietly.
