Skye's theme song will never stay the same, but the one up there is another one that fits her.

This is the story about how Skye got her enhanced mind power. Enjoy!

NOT FOR THE WEAK OF HEART.

Oliver crept down the hallway. He hadn't come across anyone but the two scientists. He was a little nervous about what could potentially come across. All the rooms so far had been empty and the doors unlabeled.

He stopped in front of the last door at the end of the hall. The door was closed and locked with a deadbolt. A piece of paper had been taped to the door. It read:

Skylarine Allen
Project Mastermind

Oliver stared at the paper for a second. Please don't let this be Skye. I didn't know her name was so fancy. He undid the deadbolt and pushed the door open.

The room was dark. Oliver turned on the light. A single bed was against one wall. On the bed was a woman. She was barely more than skin and bones. Her jet black hair hung off the edge of the bed.

Oliver slung his bow over his shoulder and jogged over to the bed. "Oh, my... Skye."

Skye turned her head toward him slowly. Her gray eyes were cloudy. She regarded him, not seeming to recognize him.

"I have to get you to a hospital," Oliver said, starting to pick her up.

"No," Skye's voice was barely more than breath leaving her mouth. "Please... Not... There..."

"You need medical attention," Oliver said. "And I'm not sure I know enough to heal you."

"They can't know," Skye gasped as Oliver picked her up. "Nobody can... know."

Oliver walked quickly toward the back entrance. Sirens were starting to echo from the street. "I don't have anywhere to take you."

Skye was breathing hard like she'd just run across the city. "Anywhere in the Glades... Somewhere... nobody goes... I just need to get... chemicals... out. You don't have to... tell me who you are."

Oliver didn't dare ask her what happened. Better to ask when she was healed. "You'll know who I am soon enough. Just focus on staying alive until we get there alright?"

Skye squeezed her eyes shut and nodded.

Oliver kicked the back door open. He was met by Detective Lance with a gun and a flashlight.

"Hood?!" Lance hissed. "What are you- oh my goodness. She needs a hospital."

"No," Oliver said. "She's safe with me. You didn't see me here."

Detective Lance looked like he was about to say something, but Oliver darted into the shadows before he could. Taking Skye to his base.

Oliver had only seen Skye a couple of times since he'd brought her here. It had only taken a week for her to return to normal. Oliver opened the door to Skye's room.

"Hey, Skye," Oliver said. "You want to tell me what happened?"

Skye turned pale and took a shaking breath. "Y-yeah." She rubbed her hands together. "Sit..."

Oliver sat down on the bed next to Skye. "Alright. Don't feel like you have to hurry."

Skye nodded and bit her lip. "I can't really tell you much and it's not because I don't want to I swear. Well, Doctor Wells told me to take a break because I'd been working on the particle accelerator. I figured I'd come here first and look for the Arrow, you. I wasn't paying any attention and lingered by an alley for too long I guess." She paused before continuing.

"I woke up in that room you found me in with a headache. My arm hurt a little bit but I didn't think anything of it. When I tried the door and it was locked I figured waiting would be my best bet." She shook her head. "I knew I wouldn't get a chance to talk as soon as the room started smelling sweet. Kind of like if you sniff a bag of assorted candy, only more sweet than that."

Oliver watched Skye's face. "Laughing gas?"

Skye shivered and nodded. "Yeah. I recognized it almost immediately. When I woke up again I had a splitting headache, but I was still in the room. I had probably a half dozen needle marks on my arm. I was awake for maybe five minutes when I smelled laughing gas again. Woke up to vertigo that time.

"The next couple times nothing was really different. After the fifth time, my whole body felt like it was on fire. The next time, it was hard to breathe, and the next one..." she trailed off, leaning forward with her elbows on her knees, staring at the floor.

Oliver noticed a silver necklace swinging from her neck. It was a gold cross. "And you still wear that?" he asked, indicating the necklace.

Skye wrapped her hand around it. "Of course."

"How? How can you do that?"

Skye sat up straight. "Why could I not?" she retaliated. "I'm still alive, aren't I? While I have the breath in my lungs, I will never stop believing."

Oliver tilted his head at her. "So what do you think the chemicals did to you?"

Skye was silent for a minute. "Well... given that they tested several at once it's likely that they needed combinations to get what they wanted. Unless I was asleep for longer than I think I was, but it was only a couple days so I doubt it."

She went through a couple other thoughts out loud. Oliver listened carefully. Last time he'd checked, Skye hadn't taken science. She obviously knew some because she could help Barry with forensics, but that wouldn't involve the kinds of chemical reactions she was talking about.

"Pause for a second Skye," Oliver said.

Skye stopped and looked at him. "Okay."

"How did you know all that stuff? You took computer classes, not chemistry."

Skye stopped, staring at him blankly. A second later her expression cleared. "I didn't- Oh... crap..." She leaned back, falling onto the bed so she lay on her back.

"Let's try one thing before we assume," Oliver said. "How do you suppose I got into the lab and killed the scientists?"

"You went through the skylight," Skye said instantly. "I saw one when you were carrying me out and it looked like it was broken. There was a lot of glass still on the edges so I'd guess you shot through the skylight first to kill the scientists before jumping down onto a desk or a table to check the rest of the room. You probably went down the hallway cautiously, checking every room and setting off an alarm to get the police to show up. Also-" she stopped abruptly and rubbed her temples. "How am I coming up with this stuff?"

"Would it make you feel better or worse if I told you that you were right?" Oliver asked.

Skye groaned. "So much worse. Was I right though?"

Oliver nodded grimly. "Yes. You were."
