THE CHILD, NOW EIGHT, SMILED. The memories from four years before had faded to dust. She was spending time with her father, eating a smooth, sweet vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles and a chocolate cone.

He pushed her on the swings as her sloppy, chestnut brown braids swang along in sync. The quality bonding time came to a halt after he checked his watch, frowned, and took her to his car. Her father started the car and began to make his way to her mother's home.

❝  Papa, why are we leaving? ❞

❝  It's just time to go, ttal ❞

She opened the car door, ran into the arms of her mother, waved her father goodbye and walked to her room.

She glared at the man she once loved and spat out

❝  This joint custody will come to an end if you don't pay your ChildSupport ❞

He lit his cigarette and glowered

❝  See you in court ❞
