"Well out of every bad thing in this world...you must be my favorite disaster"

Ivan's POV

A large wave comes rising above the pier and myself as well. Ive never seen a wave so large, and its so far out to see. The wave rushes towards us with more force than ive ever seen.

I grab Max and bolt for the house to tell dad. Max whimpers and twists and turns in my arm. I guess he knows whats coming better than i do. Before i even reach the steps to the deck the wave crushes the pier. I whip my head around to see a fairly large wave still coming on land. My lips let a small scream escape and i run as fast as i can to find dad.

"DAD!" I yell, looking for the only family ive got left. If this ocean takes anyone else i love from me i dont suppose ill be alright anymore. My heart is pounding and the wave is destroying our deck now.

"What son?! what the hell is it now?" I look left to see my dad at the kitchen table, scarfing down some lunch. I grab his hand and drag him to the door. He pulls back relentlessly not wanting to leave. "We gotta get out of here!" I scream pulling him into the sand, and kicking sand back every step of the way.

He plops down in the sand and refuses to move another inch "Stop this nonsense. What is it im running from?!" He scolds, clearly very irritated, with sand all over him and for what he thinks is no good reason.

"We dont have time for this! Run!" I turn around trying to get him up with my free hand but the moment i turn i see that the large wave has already reached the beach and just barely touched our porch.

"Run from what Ivan?!" He yells back at me. Oh boy. How in the hell do i explain myself now. He is just going to be pissed and make me stay inside but i have to know more about this girl.

Might as well just tell him straight. "There was a huge wave closing in from the sea and it destroyed the pier and i was afraid it was going to crush the house." I admit pointing to the pier.

"Yes the pier certainly looks destroyed to me." His eye brows frow and shoots me a disapproving look.

My face drops. What?

"You must have hit your head boy." He shakes his head. I dont know what to say. A second ago the pier was completely destroyed and had no hope of repairing. I dont understand.

"Y-yea. I must have." I studder, still looking out at the pier. I sit Max down and he trots across the sand the best he can despite his fatness. This same pier i had thought was ruined not even 5 minutes ago, is fine and barely touched. Dad gets up and brushes sand off his ass. Some of it sticks to his dark denim blue jeans and he looks dirty.

I feel bad, but telling him that will only let it run to his head and he wont ever let it go. "Im sorry, i really thought-" i start but he cuts in "Thought what son? Theres no storm for miles and there hasnt been any reported quakes or anything. If a tsunami was coming we would have known hours ago. You have got to stop this non-sense" he demands.

I just dont understand. I just saw it happen. I know i did. Maybe im crazy. He pushes past me and storms off into the house. Its not going to matter what i say next. He wont be happy with any comment i make next. I look down at Max and he wags his tail. The house door slams and i guess thats dad being pissed off. I look toward the house then back out to the water. "One last look" i mumble and start walking towards the pier.

Max takes off barking like he does when he chases a bird. "MAX GET BACK HE-!" i cut my own sentence short and my breath gets caught in my throat. "Max?" I whisper.
