"What? Who's this?"

"I'm your new neighbor! Nice to meet you."

"Uhm.. Nice to meet you too.."

"What's wrong?"

"Well.. You're the first person I've talked to in almost a year.."

"Why are you apologizing? It's not your fault."

"Haha I know, I mean I'm sorry that you haven't seen people in a year. It's sort of like a 'my condolences' type of thing, y'know?"

"Ah. I see."

"Well, what's your name?"

"My name? It's Nanu."

"Pretty. My name is....

I awoke to the light of the sun on the roof. My mind was full of questions, per usual. I faintly remember the voice of that boy, but everything else is just.. a blur. It doesn't really make much sense, either. I don't remember having friends, so just who was that boy? Why was he talking to me? I hate having memory loss. So stupid. I jump down from the old roof, worn from age, and make my way into the house. For once, nothing's really happening. My mom and dad aren't trying to kill each other, and my big sister is sitting in her room, watching TV, on a big screen that I never got. My TV was small and didn't work that often. It was usually filled with the eerie sound of static. At first, I thought it was the creepiest thing. But, after a couple years, it didn't sound so bad. It was rather soothing to hear. Better than nothing, I guess. I decided to walk around the house. Mommy and Daddy had the door locked. Does this mean that they're not home? As I get closer, I can hear mommy screaming.
'Stop it you..' is all I can make out. Everything else is really low and hard to hear. I decide to check if mommy is alright. Now, you're probably wondering how I can do this if the door is locked. No, I can't phase through doors, despite what others believe. What I can do, however, is see through the door.

What is daddy doing?
It's hard to explain, but..
Mommy is screaming, and daddy is looking at her like she's food. Are they playing together? That's nice. Maybe they can finally be happy. This is the start of a new friendship, right? Right. Seeing as there's nothing wrong, I'm gonna leave them alone. They probably don't need me right now. I'm gonna go check on my sister instead.

What is that green stuff in her hand?
Why is it making smoke?
This, I don't know.
I'm definitely concerned, but what can I do? I don't know anything about it, so it's not like I can assume that she's doing something bad, right? Right.

I'm going back to the river now. I like it there a lot more than I do here. No worrying, no sadness, just... nature. It's amazing, really.

Why does my heart hurt so much? Can that even happen? Is it possible for a ghost to get headaches? Maybe it'll go away if I keep walking.

Maybe not. Ugh, why is this happening? I wish I could take medicine, but I can't really touch things though, so that's probably out of the question. I finally see my favorite place coming into view. Maybe now my headache will go away.

It did. The minute I breathed in the air in he place, my headache just vanished. I knew this place was magical. It got rid of my headache! But, this is when the strange part comes in. When I left the forest to go check on my family again, my headache came back...
This has never happened before. Why is it happening now? I guess I'll just have to deal with it if I want to keep my family safe. So i decided to head into the house.

"YOU DUMBASS! WHY WOULD YOU EVER TOUCH ME!" I heard my mom yell. What was happening? Why was mommy yelling? "IT'S NOT LIKE I WANTED TO! YOU WERE BEING DISOBEDIENT, SO I HAD TO PUNISH YOU!" Punish? What was daddy talking about? Did mommy do something wrong? I'm so confused.
"YOU'RE SUCH A CREEP! DONT EVER TOUCH ME AGAIN, AND STAY OUT OF MY SIGHT!" That was when daddy hit mommy.

Her.
Unforgivable.
Wait, what's this feeling? I'm mad, but it doesn't feel like just anger. It feels..
Like hatred. But I could never hate daddy. Even still..
I can't forgive him.
All of a sudden, a pot comes flying at his head. Did I do that? Daddy screamed in pain. It was nice hearing it, especially after he heard me scream all these years. A frying pan just hit him on the back. This is kind of fun..
Unable to help it, I began to giggle. It was funny watching daddy screaming. He had such a weird scream. They looked around the room, absolutely mortified. I begin to laugh, laugh so hard that I can even hear the echoes. That's when my headache began to worsen. I started crying. It hurt so much..
I ran back to my garden. I can't take it anymore.

When I finally arrive at my garden, my headache starts to lessen. It felt relieving. I decide to immerse my body in the water this time. It felt nice.. for a moment. But, my head began to hurt again. Only a little bit, though. Suddenly, everything fades to black, and I can't move anymore.

《March 12, 1998》

"Do you know how to swim, Nanu?"

"Not really.."

"Aw! Well, I can teach you, if you want."

"But I'm not allowed to leave the house."

"Who cares! They'll never find out. C'mon, the place is really close."

"...If you say so."

"YES! Now, come on!"

"So, what are you supposed to do, exactly?"

"Well, all you have to do is just paddle your arms and legs in the water. Try not to freak out, or you'll have a higher chance to drown."

"Okay... like this?"

"Yeah! Now, keep going. You're a fast learner, Nanu."

"Thanks."

"Can I ask you something, though?"

"What is it?"

"Why are you so serious all the time? You never laugh at any jokes, and you always have this gloomy look on your face."

"..I do?"

"Yeah. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but you're my friend, and I care about you. I've been really worried the past few days that I've known you."

"Your...friend?"

"Yeah, what else would we be?"

"I've never had a friend before.."

"Well, you do now! I think I might join you. It's way too hot nowadays. Oh, and Nanu?"

"Hm?"

"Whatever happens to you, I'm here. You can always talk to me about anything. I just want you to be happy, okay?"

"..."

"Nanu?"

"Thank you. Thank you so much"

"Don't mention- Hey! Why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?"

"No, just.. thank you for being my friend.."

"Hehe. Don't worry about it. I like talking to you. Wanna go dive off that mountain?"

"But I just learned how to swim!"

"Who cares! It's not like it's rocket science or anything. Now, come on, let's go!"

《Current Time》

I wake up beside the cliff of the waterfall. What just happened? Was that a dream? I heard that boy's voice again. Why did that happen? I'm so confused. Maybe the water had something to do with it.. But, what's that thing by the lake? It's big and black and scary. It resembles a person, though I'm not too sure that it is. It noticed me too. For whatever reason. I start to panic. It starts getting closer. I have the urge to start running. Before I know it, the.. thing is looming over my body, and I see a hand. But it's not a normal hand. It's a really pale, cold hand, much like my own. Before I could say anything, my eyes shut close, and everything once again fades to black.
