Chapter 4
Greasy Sae's funeral was held on a warm, sunny day. Not a cloud in the sky. I held Peeta's hand as we walked to the ruins of the black market. There weren't a lot of people there. It was just us, a few townspeople, Ripper, and a couple people I knew from the Hob. We nodded at each other solemnly. I managed to catch Haymitch's eye in the crowd. He walked over and said, "Congratulations, sweetheart. I heard the boy popped the question."
I nod. "Yeah. We went to the lake yesterday."
He responds, "He stopped by this morning and dropped bread off and told me."
"I'm right here," Peeta says.
I snort. "I know."
He kisses me in between my eyebrows, and the three of us walk over to Rose and Sage, who was holding the vase.
Peeta says, "How are you doing?"
Sage replies, "Fine. I just kind of want to get it over with."
Haymitch, Peeta and I nod. We all know that feeling.
An Hour LaterThe ceremony was very peaceful. I still thought it was a little strange that they burned Greasy Sae, but, I'll get over it. People noticed my closeness with Peeta and the ring on my finger, so they suspect what they suspect. They mumbled congratulations, and left. We walked back in silence.
"Haymitch," I ask him, "Is Hazelle still working for you?"
"Yeah. You really think I would wear a bow tie for fun?"
True.
We are at our door now. "See you tomorrow, Haymitch. Don't get too drunk."
He throws me a glare. "You too, sweetheart."
