Chapter 13
The second I walk into the house and place the bread in the breadbox, I pick up the phone to call Annie.
It rings twice, then a woman picks up.
"Hello?" she says.
I respond, "Hi, is this Annie?"
The woman says, "Yes it is! Is this Katniss?"
I smile. "Yes, it is," I say.
"Oh, Katniss! How are you? I haven't talked to you in such a long time! How's Peeta?"
"Oh, everything's fine. He's feeling much better mentally and physically. Same with me. How about you?"
"Oh, fine, fine. Have I told you about my baby boy yet?"
I reply, "No, not yet."
Annie says excitedly, "Oh, well, he's almost 6 now. His name is Sawyer."
"That's great."
Annie pauses. "Katniss, is there anything I can help you with?"
I nod. "Actually, yes. Okay. So my birthday is tomorrow, and I really want to visit your district. Is it okay if-"
"Oh, Katniss. Of course you can stay with us! Our house is a teeny bit too big for just the two of us. We will be willing to share."
I grin. "Okay, Annie. Thank you. We'll probably be there tomorrow evening, is that okay?"
"Perfect."
"Thanks again, Annie. See you tomorrow!"
"Of course! Bye, Katniss. Take care!"
I say goodbye and we hang up.
I take my jacket off and I bound up the stairs to take a shower. The cool water races down my back to the drain and I pour lemon shampoo on my head. I dry myself off and yank the knots out of my hair. By the time I collapse on my bed, my eyelids are drooping and it's only 7:30. I guess years of physical exertion are paying me back. I'm not even awake when Peeta comes home.
