CHAPTER 2

SUICIDE SOUNDS LIKE A PRINCE CHARMING

Excuse me Miss, but… you are not really jumping down there are you?

“Miss? Do I really look like a Miss to you?  You have got to be kidding me.” I said to him in frustration. I mean this was my chance to get rid of these shackles and this person just has to come and ruin it. Whatever I am not gonna let him halt me. I got to complete what I came here for. I leaned once again over the edge trying to look as much inconspicuous as I could.  But guess what this world just doesn’t have that for me.

“Urmm… I am sorry.” He muttered clearly looking outta place. “But…. hey miss, what you are doing?” he shouted the last part while waving his hand towards where I was leaning.

“Garrrrhhh…” I groaned screamed while turning to face him. “Seriously? Can’t you just see I am kinda busy over here? Just leave me the hella alone.” I yelled at him while he just looked at me in surprise with his wide eyes and that same outta place look.

“Lily?” he said with a small smile on his lips which just widened in a full grin when I just screwed up my eyebrows but didn’t correct him. I am sure I didn’t know him or seen him before anytime in the uni. It was sweet that at least someone knew me. “It’s really you…” he said while taking a big step towards me. Okay! Now it’s getting creepy. That look of adoration on his face is now really creeping me out.

“How do you know me??” I asked him giving him a look that I think would pass as a look of accusing and suspicion.

“You are Lily right? Lily Forbes. Oh! Why am I even asking you this? Of course you are Lily Forbes. I mean I can recognize my Lily almost everywhere. Oh my god! I never would have thought I would meet you again. I mean after what happened yesterday I would never have expected this. This is just so amazing. Are you dead? I know I shouldn’t be this happy but this just doesn’t happen every day. You know I never expected this from you. When you were alive in high school you used to be so silent just like a gothic girl who just kept to herself, never talked to others, no boyfriends, nothing, just like Alice lost in wonderland. I mean not exactly like the Alice part but just the wonderland part. You know what I am trying to say right? Oh my gosh! I still can’t believe my eyes… I mean I am really talking to you- to Lily Forbes. Man you don’t know how amazing this is. I used to always think that-…

“Ok Ok! I know you are really excited but could you just cool down a little? Take a breath. A deep one.” He did as I said I looked at me with the same grin still pasted right over there. I just chose to ignore it.

 “Hmm… So you said know me from high school. How so? And who the heck are you?” he winced when I said that.

“I am Grayson, Grayson Evans. We went to the same high school. In fact we were in the same year. You don’t remember me?” when I didn’t reply his smile turned upside down but he just went on- I used to hang out with the Stevie & people group… in fact I was the only nerd in the whole group. Forget about the group I was the only nerd who was actually best friends with the jocks in the whole history of Raymond High school.

I replied with a simple “oh”. I didn’t know what to say to him. He just seemed very cheerful and bubbly… totally opposite to me.

He kept looking at me with the same look and maybe expecting me to say something to fill up the awkward silence but I just didn’t know what to. I mean I don’t even know him. Maybe according to him we went high school together, but I don’t remember anything. Not that I lost my memory or anything like that but just like he said I used to just keep to myself.

“You are really dead aren’t you?” he said suddenly making me jerk my head towards him suddenly.

“Wha- No. No I am not dead. Not still. I am still alive.”

He seemed shocked at my reply and lost in his own world… probably thinking about what I just replied. I didn’t want to say the ‘still’ part but it just kind of slipped outta my tongue. He still seemed dazed and thinking to himself and if my ears didn’t betray me, I think I heard him mutter “Huh? How?” to himself. I just chose to ignore him and let him continue whatever he was probably doing with that pretty little bubbly head of his.

Did I just think that? Oh! God! This guy is doing some really cruel things with my sanity. Woof! Focus!

I checked my watch for time seeing that it was already getting quite dark actually meaning I had to get back to the apartment. There was no use to be out here in the dark anyways.

“Umm… Grayson?”  I turned to him.

“Grayson?” I said again. I swear he was just over here a minute before. He can’t just vanish out just like that.

“Graayson, GRAYSON” I shouted a little more. I heard a twig snap behind me making my heart beats spike up. Damn it! Now when I could finally get my wish I am behaving like a fucking scared cat.

 “Nope! Calm down” I muttered to myself. “Breathe in. Breathe out.

 Breath in. breath out…” I kept muttering to myself as I heard the footsteps getting really closer to me. I couldn’t dare open my eyes which I had probably closed during my inner revelry.

“Grayson are you there?” I managed to get myself together.

“Is it you over there Grayson?”

“Umm… yeah! Lily, it’s me. You can open your eyes now.”

“Geez! Man! You gave me a heart attack over there.” I shouted at him.

“Where did ya vanish all of sudden. Do you have any fucking idea what I went through? You are fucking unbelievable…”

“Umm… I thought I saw a rabbit over there. I just followed it hoping I would catch it. Big Fail.” He muttered sheepishly while scratching his head.

“Oh!” I couldn’t find a suitable reply for that. Who goes out following rabbit hoping they would catch it? Just like that? Damn! That was seriously a big fail.

“You like rabbits.”

I looked at him with wide eyes and open mouth. What’s with him and my replies? I can’t even find an easy comeback for whatever he says.

“I just you know- know.”

“Oh!”

“Hmm.. oh!”

“I got to go Grayson, it’s getting dark and it’s not exactly a safe place to be. You should leave soon too.” I said to him.

“Ok! But umm… can you at least you know- let me walk you to your home?”

I didn’t know what to say to that. I mean no one has said such a thing before to me. I just nodded at him and started walking my way back with him side by side to me. We didn’t talk the whole way back but it wasn’t an uncomfortable silence. It’s just we were both lost in our own thoughts…

“Thanks for walking me home, Grayson.” I smiled at him.

He tucked his hands inside his front pockets and smiled at me.

“You are welcome.”

I nodded once at him as I walked through the gates towards the lift. As I entered my apartment I couldn’t help but think about him. Today was different. It was indeed quite different. I walked to the window and watched a silhouette of a person walking away with hands tucked inside jeans pockets and disappear in the darkness…
