I smiled and started paddling. There was a big wave coming and I was going to get it. I stopped after a good five minutes of paddling. The wave was close now. I turned my board around. Jolene kept going, as she passed she stuck her tongue out at me.
I looked back, there was my wave. "Call it!" I yelled at her. I was perched on my board ready to stand and win.
My wave was almost ten feet high. It started to tunnel on the far end. 'Good, just what I wanted, ' I thought happily.
I got into the tunnel just in time. I put my hand out and my fingers skimmed along the wall of water. I was coming out ahead of the tunnel now. I heard cheers and screams on the beach. I did it.
I road my board all the way to the beach.
"That was so cool!"
"You totally blew her out of the water!"
"Amazing! Just amazing! How do you do it?"
Cheers were coming from everywhere. I managed to get away from them when Jolene wash up. They were sneering at her, like always.
"Babe, that was amazing!" Mason hugged me. I pushed away from him.
I couldn't breath. I couldn't talk either. I turned around, dizziness making me wobble. John walked up with a huge smile on his face, but it disappeared when he saw my condition.
The ground suddenly lurched towards me. I closed my eyes, expecting to hit the ground. But I never felt the impact. I cracked open my eyes, John caught me. He looked down at me worried.
Elise rushed up "John help me get her to the water, now!"
I felt him pick me up almost effortlessly. He took me waist deep into the water.
"Now what!?" his voiced laced with worry.
"She said this wouldn't happen again," Elise muttered under her breath, "Okay lay her down in the water."
"Elise are you crazy!? She can't breath she'll drown. "
"Just trust me, okay?"
John lowered me into the water. It was cold at first, but got warmer as the rest of my body submerged. I closed my eyes and lowered my head under water. Water rushed into my lungs and air filtered through my gills.
I know. Creepy, right?
I sat up and took a breath of air as the water left. Alex and the others came into the water, too.
"Damn it. Taylor, you promised." he sobbed and grabbed me pulling me close to him.
"I'm fine now. I can promise that much." I have laughed and coughed.
Alex scowled at me obviously not amused. I mouthed 'sorry ' to him. John came up and got in between me and him.
"What happened?" John asked with an extremely worried expression.
I was about to say something but Elise cut me off, "She gets too excited and we have to submerge her under water to calm her down. No biggie. "
John nodded and thought for a moment, "Hey, you guys want to come to my place and swim for a bit? The water is crystal clear and almost always calm." his offer sounded extremely good right now.
"Hell yeah, bro. Give us your address and we'll be there soon." Alex excitedly.
I stayed in the water as they walked away. I need to keep the water in my lungs. "Hey I'll be a little late but I'll be there, k?" I shouted.
They waved. I was good to go. I did a running dive into deeper water. It cleared up as I swam deeper. A great white shark swam up to me. It swam around me a couple of times and fell in place with me.
"Hi, Whites. Did you see me today? I beat Jolene again." I stroked his side. A couple of years ago, when I found out I could breath, I saved him from a fishing trap. He was smaller back then. Now he is twice the size of John.
I watched the sun start to sink into the sky. "Time to go buddy. Can you drop me off near John's please?" I asked him. He gave me rides, it was a lot of fun too.
Soon Whites slowed down so I kissed him on the head and surfaced.
"Hey! I didn't think you would come." I turned around and saw John walking up to greet me.
I sighed, "I told you I'd be late." I couldn't help but smile. He helped pull me out of the water.
We walked through the grass and into his backyard. I gasped. I was almost like a cape, palm trees stood tall and proud around the edges, the water was almost like pool water. It sparkled and twinkled as if to say hello. Elise, Alex, Maya, Mason and a few others were down in it swimming and laughing.
John took my hand and gently pulled me down towards the water. Half way there I snapped out of my daze and started running.
"Come know slow poke! The water awaits us!" I giggled and jumped in.
I came up and didn't see John. I knew he was right behind me when I jumped. My thoughts were cut off when he came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me, "Better hold your breath." We went under. He let go of me and turned me around to face him.
I was about to swim up because I didn't want to take a breath and risk him knowing. He grabbed my arm and pulled me down. I pointed up. Next thing I know, I'm in his arms and he is kissing me. I kiss him back. We pull away and both take a breath. Wait what!?
"Oh my gosh. You can breath? Under water?" I started.
"Y-yeah. You can too?" he stuttered.
I nodded, "So can Elsie and Alex. Omg this is crazy! Dude, this is crazy!"
