I woke up as we landed Iowa. Damn was it different from Hawaii. Mike got up and motioned for me to follow.
"Is it cold outside? Will I freeze?" I asked as we got off. "God, I'm gonna freeze."
Mike laughed, "No your not." he waved a man, woman, and two kids over to us. "This is Taylor. Our new sister." he stated proudly.
I did a small wave. I've never been shy before, why now?
The woman ran up and hugged me tightly. "Oh it's so good to meet you, dear. I'm Kathy, this is my husband Ben, and our twins James and Johnathan. Just so you know, dear, James is taller." she winked.
James and Johnathan were running around in circles playing tag. Ben was staring straight at me. Kathy was talking non-stop on How much I would like it here. Mike was looking at me like he was going to die of happiness.
'Geez! This family is crazy. How did I get stuck with them?' I thought ruefully. I smiled through my doubts. 'I only have to spend two years with them. Then I'm free to go back to Hawaii! If only Alex could see what I'm stuck with.' I looked at the sky, 'I miss him...'
"Come on now. It looks like it might rain." Ben said thoughtfully.
"Good idea. I don't like getting wet much." I said.
Kathy laughed "Oh but you're from Hawaii don't you surf?"
"Yes, but only on special days,like, when there are surfing challenges. I've never lost a single one." I said proudly.
Ben scowled at me "Well not anymore. Sweetheart your not in Hawaii, so you'll lose your winning streak." I obviously said something wrong.
Mike cleared his throat "Taylor why don't you ride with me so I can talk to you. I want to know more about you." I looked at Mike. he nodded his head yes.
"Sure. I'd love too."
We got in his car. I looked at him, "What-"
He cut me off. "He has issues. Anger management issues. "
I coughed, "That explains so much! "
"Just don't get on his nerves please."
"Why? It's not like he is going to hit me."
"Yes he will. He did it to me."
I gasped. "That's not right though! He has no right!"
"Actually he does." Mike muttered.
"No he....Wait what?...How is that possible?" I asked stunned.
"He bought you. Now he owns you."
"I was born of the Goddess of the Sky and the Son of the Sea! I cannot be owned by some swank!" I yelled at Mike. I was beyond furious.
(NOTICE!! The definition of swank - a VERY rich person who owns other people until he/she gets what they want.....END NOTICE)
Mike slammed on the breaks and pulled over. "You were born of who!?"
"The Goddess of the Sky and the Son of the Sea. Focus here." I huffed.
"You mean you are...the daughter of the legends. Oh. My. Fricking. God. Taylor, your....you.....I mean....Oh wow."
"What?"
"Do you have a boyfriend or a crush or like best friend that's a guy?" he asked urgently.
"Yes..."
"What have I done?" he asked himself.
