Prologue Part 1: Kage no Ôkami (The Wolf of Shadows)

(A/N) before we start I don't not own the video. So nothing bad like Copyright happens. Also if these stories get edited and like a weapon is missing or a name is changed, it's because I just don't like how it sounds anymore or I believe it fits the character better.

(POV Merrick)

Well let me be the first to welcome you to our story. My name is Merrick Cloud Briar, and I am the leader of Team META. We're about to tell you our story, and with that I will begin the background of my life.

My life started in a dirty house, in a dirty room, on a dirty bed. Yes if you could guess my family is dirt poor, for they are both faunuses. Not to many people in our neighborhood took kindly to faunuses, but with darkness, there was light within the White Fang. My parents were major supporters in the White Fang's Uprising. We believed in what the White Fang stood for as my family wanted equality and peace. You could even say I was born into the White Fang as well as my little sister, Artemis. For all of my life I have lived to fight for our rights and trying to make people see we were no different then them.

I then started to train at that moment as well. My father began teaching me the ways of swordsmanship and martial arts. My sister and I learned to defend ourselves as I became one with my katana, Darkus and my pistol, Apollo. Soon though our leader changed how we acted, I mean at first we didn't attack any human, but they would still attack us. Soon our comrades and friends started to be more aggressive and violent. Next thing I know we're fighting back against taking so much punishment from humans. The thing that confused me was that it was working, people started to stop attacking us, but why would they. I finally understood that they were afraid for their lives and we used that fear to our advantage. For me though, I had enough with all of this. My father always told me to stay honorable about who I was, but this... this was not for our rights and this not what I wanted to stand for.

So many innocent people dying in the streets. Their faces are all I can remember as the White Fang slaughtered so many. All I can remember is losing control and unleashing a darkness I had not felt in so long. Now I am alone. My mother and sister were separated from me and my father 8 years ago. My father disappeared then 3 years later when I was 12, and now for 5 years I have been on my own.

Traitor of my own kind. Outcast of my race. 17 years of me fighting for this cause and this is what I received for all the work my family had done. Hit from behind and beaten down and slashed at by my own brothers and sisters. My arms covered with deep cuts as well as my back, and for what, because I saved a human family only to see them die seconds later. I had enough of all this, I knew I had to get far away from all of this. I had been walking through the woods for awhile as I tried to get far away from the camp.

"There you are." I turn around as I see my former teammate, Kai. Kai, a person I thought was my friend, but that isn't how it turned out. He was really my downfall.

"What could you possibly want?" I snapped back as I continued to walk. He jumped in front of me.

"I know you're running, Merrick." I tried to go around him, but he puts Ragnarök in front of me (axe-double-barrel shotgun combo).

"Merrick don't make me do something I will regret." I knocked away Ragnarök with Darkus, wincing as my arm ached from all the cuts.

"You don't mean that in the slightest. You know well what just happened was unforgivable. All those people did not need to die!"

He shook his head. "Leonidas was right, you have gotten weak."

"Showing mercy does not make you weak Kai! All that blood is on your hands." I pointed Darkus at him. "Everyday you're going to have to live with knowing that you and the other killed and for what reason? Simply, because you can."

He laughed which confused me. "That was only the beginning Merrick, but it seems we were too merciful on you. Ah, right on time Leonidas." I turned around to see a tall figure emerge from the shadows. Leonidas, a lion-faunus, and our leader. He possessed the powerful PrideRock, a sledgehammer that grows stronger by a person's emotions. Fighting Kai is one thing, but fighting Leonidas was like you trying to stop a train with only your bare hands.

"I'm disappointed in you Merrick. I thought you would see the light, but now we both have to do this." I merely growled at Leonidas as PrideRock started to glow. "Goodbye Merrick."

Both Kai and Leonidas came from both sides. I blocked Kai and kicked him away and dodged PrideRock by mere luck. They attacked again together with Leonidas going first. He swung PrideRock and I dodged it, but Kai attacked me with Ragnarök, and cut me from the side. I growled in pain and grabbed my side feeling the blood seep through my fingers. I pulled out Apollo and started firing explosive rounds. Kai and Leonidas dodged them. I took the chance to gain some ground from both of them. We were close to the kingdom of Vale and I was just hoping to get to a village or town for help. That all changed as I hear gun fire, and soon a shearing pain in my leg. I collapse, tumble, and I clutch my leg as another faunus appeared before me. Her name is Scorpia, and she is a scorpion faunus.

"And where did you think you were going to run off to Merrick?" I growled as I looked down at my leg. She had shot me with one of her venom encased bullets. My leg began to burn as the venom made its way through my veins. I crawled for Apollo, but she pressed her heel into my hand. I growled in as she kicked it further away. Everything started going dark. She held the sniper to my head "Tell your father I said hello." Everything starting going black, and all I can remember is a dark figure. Who were they? Was I going to die?
