Prompt 669: Nerfgun War
We were young, dumb, and in love. The child lived in us for ages. I still think about how we had staring contest to see who would get the last slice of pizza or how we'd have Nerfgun wars to see who would play the Xbox for the longest. I was always the perfect girl for you because I was one of the guys. We drank beer together and watched the games. I still can't get over how we'd have makeout session's during the commercials. Or what about that time we went to the stip club on 8th and had a ball.
It was always us. We were made for another. But I guess no one is perfect for long. As we grew older you changed. You no longer waited for me at the bar with mugs of beer and salted peanuts. You missed dinner alot and stayed out with the guys more often and as you shifted,so did I. I started to do more with my hair, and makeup. I bought dresses and leggings to complement those year old heels I never wore.
And then it became clearer we were never the same. I've always known that we were there, but we weren't at the same time. As years passed we stayed, but we both knew it was over. It was over before we said it was over.
So here I am on my wedding day wondering where you are. Wondering if you got my invite or if you care at all. We changed but our love for another is the same. I've never stopped hoping you'd come back somehow or that you'd tell me how stupid I was for marrying Colton Shaw. But here I am. Waiting like I did for dinner . The dress follows behind me and each step I take is the realization of my actions finally soaking in. I force the bile down my throat and walk.
I can here voices awe over my presence and my dress. I see Colton ahead and smile. The silk behind me follows,my daddy's arm interwined with mine. As I take my last step on the petals I hear the doors of the church open.
I know it's you. "Let's have a Nerfgun war," you said.
"I win, I marry you. And if you win then you marry me."
I turned around and faced you; the man I have always loved. Your suit was exactly how I dreamed it be. You remembered exactly how I wanted everything to be. Without hesitation I ran into your arms and that was the best feeling in the word besides being yours, again.
