"You're gonna like it here, I promise." my Mom said excitedly, she held onto the wheel tightly which obviously meant she was nervous. I looked at the road trying hard not to cry. Last month my Dad had lost his company, he'd sold it to a foreigner and bought it for 1200 dollars, and now buying the house we only had 200 dollars left. Before we lived uptown in the Big Apple, I had a dog, my own room, and I went to a private prepped school, but because this happened I had to leave it all. "So where am I going?" I asked not amused, "Charles McDougall." she said plainly, I was silent after that. My Mom was a lively person, who always smiled and laughed, lately she seemed worried and sick. One of the many things that I had to do was make new friends, back in Marine's Private Apochol I had many friends. It was normal to make new fiends and have a fresh start but by the looks of the school it wasn't possible to even think about a fresh start. The school was old, dirty, and it was surrounded by kids with tattoos and piercings. "Holy shit." I breathed. "Mom I don't wanna go to school today." I panicked, but she gave me the worried look that she had the same night Dad told her the bad news. "Bye Mom." I grabbed my backpack from my side and scrabbled out of the car. "Have fun sweetie! Make new friends!" she screamed as she drove away.
"Class, this is Ana Martin. She just came from the city and she's newly put into our class!" the teacher seemed more than happy to talk about a new student, meanwhile nobody in the class was paying attention. Everyone was either talking, on their phone, or sleeping. "Okay so, find a seat anywhere you like alright? Don't be shy." He winked at me as I walked away towards the back of the class. I sat beside a boy who was wearing a hat, he had a tattoo on the side of his neck, and when I turned to get a better glance at him, he noticed me and started to stare. "Why are you even here?" he asked, "I, uh, just wanted a fresh start." I stuttered back, he was cute. He had dark brown eyes and black set hair. "Huh, let me tell you something," he leaned in closer to whisper in my ear, "Nobody ever moves all the way to the West end unless you're born here or you lost a shit load of money.". He moved back into his seat, and I was stuck frozen in shock. "I'm Zeke," he said, "And don't worry you're secret's safe with me. Well, that is if you even want to keep it a secret." then he winked, shot a smirk, got up, and the bell rang.
Second period was tiring, the teacher made the class do 30 sets of push-ups and a 100 jumping jacks. As soon as it was over I ran to the change room, when I opened the door I jumped to see two girls, they both had tattoos on their arms and they had nose rings. They were kissing, and I remembered that I still hadn't received my first kiss. "Oh shit, I'm so sorry." I pushed the door back, "Hey! Come back!" they both roared, at that point I ran. I kept on running, I knew I was being chased because I heard small breathes and fast feet behind me. I didn't know where to hide, when I turned right I was caught. I closed my eyes, I'm going to die in a school, I thought. Then I started to breathe really hard, "Shhh..." he said, I looked up, it was Zeke. As soon as the footsteps were gone, he let go. "Thank you." I was still out of breath, "Hah! We found you!" the two girls popped at the back of the door, I stood there shocked. Oh no, I said to myself. "Eli, Maggie, leave her alone." Zeke said without any fear, his words flowed with a playful tone. "Zeke! Oh shit! We haven't seen you all week!" they said together, Zeke, Eli, and Maggie smiled all together, like old friends. As soon as I was gonna walk away, Eli said, "Hey, whats your name?", Maggie followed along with her eyes towards me as if she asked that too. "Ana." I said, "Well Ana we'll be seeing you around." and Maggie winked at me while Eli smirked. They turned and walked away with Zeke. Everybody sure likes to wink in this school.
I waited for my mom after school, she was an hour late from picking me up. I fiddled around with my phone, scrabbling down the contacts I used to call "friends". Why hadn't they texted me? Or called? I was aggravated at the thought. "Give me your phone." I looked up to see Zeke, he was smiling in a way that made me feel bubbly inside. "Why?" I asked. "Because you don't have my number and I don't have yours." he was serious, and he wasn't hitting me because he wasn't the flirting type. I handed him my phone and he started to press the buttons. "Say, you doing anything tonight?" he smiled through, "Yes." I said quietly, I was nervous by the presence of him, "You know you shouldn't lie cause you're really bad at it. But okay, bye." he got up and left. I stared at him till his body turned into a small blur. My phone made the noise that I died to hear, I opened it "You have a text!" it read. Hoping for it to be one of my friends back at Marine's, instead it read, "Rule Number 1: Don't lie or else I'm not saving your ass anymore, oh and by the way, happy birthday.", Zeke, I thought to myself, I smiled and turned off my phone. I wondered, how'd he know my birthday? Then I remembered that my phone had a reminder of all the dates, including my birthday, what a rebelled school, I thought.
