Just Like Old Times (excerpt)

There's a church on practically every corner, in just about every denomination. Their letter-board signs display Bible quotes and inspirational mottos. Most of them are in English, but there's several in Spanish and a couple in Korean too. The closer you get to the center of town, the more of them you see. To a certain type of American, it's reassuring. "This is a good place," they tell each other. "There's a church on practically every corner."

They come on the weekends, mostly, tourists looking for that Old Town experience. They come to visit the pharmacy with a real soda fountain inside, just like where Grandma and Grandpa met each other. They come to stroll Main Street arm-in-arm or hand-in-hand, to watch salt-water taffy being made in sweet-shop windows, to listen to the brass band in the park and the barbershop quartet on the corner by the actual barbershop.

And they are perfectly safe, as long as they leave town by six o'clock....
