Hey, it's SachoNacho and LoLo! Thank you sooo much for actually coming this far -- we didn't expect anyone to bother reading a fic inspired by a math problem. But since you've come this far, read on! Please? Thanks. Sorry, I'm distracting you... but one more thing before you go/keep reading??? We came up with this entire fictional universe, and while some of the characters' traits are based off of other fic characters, we applied our own imagination to the concept. Thx!!!!

I was sitting in math class, problems going through my head, only writing down half the equations I solved. I was trying to look average. In kindergarten, I was at the top of my class, but it was a lot of stress to keep my grades up. Eventually, I hid my intelligence, just trying to blend in with the crowd. I wasn't stupid--I was normal. It kept the teachers from calling on me.
"Earth to Delsin!" Nar-nar nagged, his perfectly combed hair falling in his eyes. "You were zoning out again."
"Sorry," I told my my lanky friend. Nar-nar always wore immaculate polos, and crisp blue jeans. He had big, brown eyes, that were warm and soft, like a cow's, and he had glasses too big for his face to frame them. And since he was worried about getting caught talking, his eyes were wider than usual.
"Anthony! Since you're obviously finished with your work, can you please explain to us the answer to problem three?" The teacher called to Nar-nar.
I'm going to get off-topic for a second. Nar-nar's name is actually Anthony, but he got the nickname on a fieldtrip in the second grade to an aquarium. When we got to the Deep Sea exhibit, he was absolutely fascinated with the narwhals.
They're sea unicorns! He had said excitedly. Nar-nar had a particular fondness for unicorns that nobody really understood.
The sound of Nar-nar struggling to find an answer jolted me back to reality. "Oh- umm..."
"Yes?" Ms. Ondska inquired, "Do you have an answer for the class, Mr. 'Nar-nar'?"
The class snickered. They weren't exactly fond of Nar-nar... I normally didn't draw attention to myself, but I had to save Nar-nar from this humiliating death. Plus, I knew the answer.
"y is equal to 5x plus 54b."
"...thank you... Mr. Taylor..."
"You're welcome!" I replied sarcastically.
Later, as we were walking home from school, Nar-nar thanked me for the save. It wasn't really a big deal though, I just wanted to be over it. Nar-nar knew I was a genius, and no matter how much I wanted to, he wouldn't let me forget it.
As we arrived at my house, he walked in like he lived there. In a way, he did. He was there pretty much all the time. After grabbing some chips and salsa, we headed up to my room to work on our homework.
"What did you get for question #13?" he asked.
"394"
"Thanks."
We were just sitting like that until my mom came in and told us to pull out the trundle bed, then come down for dinner.
We came downstairs to a dinner of pizza and cans of Pepsi. Yup, real attentive mom right there. My mom always treated Nar-nar like her favorite child, even though they weren't even related. She sort of gave up on me after I quit the whole "super-genius" thing.
Anyway, after dinner Nar-nar and I went back up to my room to play truth or dare. I always came up with really mean dares, while Nar-nar did his best. This time, he dared me to call a random number and strike up a conversation with them.
"Hello?" I asked after the phone stopped ringing.
Umm... Who is this? The person on the other end said. She had an accent that sounded southern and warm.
"Wellll... who is this???"
I asked you first, she said with complete indignation.
"Fair enough," I laughed. "I'm... Peter! Peter Johnson."
Do I know you? She questioned.
"No, I don't think so," I responded, "I, uh, unless I know someone with an accent as pretty as yours??? Did I do it right? I think I did it right..." I whispered to myself.
She giggled.
"Did you umm... did you hear that?" I stuttered.
Yup, she giggled.
By then, I was blushing madly. I was glad she was only talking to me over the phone, and not face to face, because I would've combusted of embarrassment.
"I- uhm, uh..."
She giggled again. My name is Chris. Save my number, and maybe we can talk again sometime.
"O- Ok," I mumbled stupidly.
Bye, she said softly, severing our connection.
