"Shit. No parking"
"Dev it's fine, just circle around the block. There's gotta be something" Ali says calmingly, trying to ensure Devin won't blow up.
"An, you okay?" Ali turns to me. "You've said about five words since we got in the car. You're excited right?"
"Yeah no, I was just...um...thinking. I'm fine. Really. I'm excited." I lie.
"Well, you better be fucking pumped because I'm ready to fuck shit up!" Devin chimes in throwing her fist in the air.
"Dev! Hands on the wheel!" Ali scolds. Devin retaliates by pursing her lip forward, and mocking Ali's small voice. I let out a small laugh and Ali gives Devin a solid punch in the arm.
"Ow!"
"Oh, dont be a pussy! I didn't hit you that hard." Ali says rolling her eyes. We drive around for five more minutes before finally pulling into a gravel lot next to a crummy gas station. I take a deep breathe as I step out of the car. Groups of people walk past all smiles and excitement. From their tight clothes, tattoos, and expressive personalities I can tell that they are all headed to the same place. The sky is light grey but a bit of light shining from the sun manages to bleed through. A small breeze catches me off guard and I shiver as a pull my light sweater over my shoulders and sheer lace top, Ali insisted I wear. The sound of voices shouting and chords blasting through amps are distant but grow louder with each step.
"Oh come on Anna! Wipe that sad ass pouty look off your face. This weekend is supposed to be our escape." Devin whines. "C'mon music, food, beer and hot punkies, what more could you ask for?"
I sigh and give her a small shrug. She steps right in front of me blocking my path and stares me straight in the eyes.
"Look. It didn't work out with Matt, and that sucks but its been three weeks and I'm sick and tired of you moping around."
"Devin!" Ali shouts. "He was a big part of her life! You don't just get over someone like that! I mean, god five years is a long time to give your life to someone and for him to just out of the blue find some other girl is just..."
"Guys!" I intrude. "Do you want to continue to tell me how my breakup went, cause I think I got it the first time." Devin turns to me with softened eyes, a side I rarely see of her.
"I'm sorry. I love you and I just know that dwelling over him isn't gonna make you feel any better." Suddenly Ali's face lights up and she is grinning ear to ear.
"Ooh! Here's what we're gonna do." She begins before unzipping my sweater and pulling it off my arms. She removes my hair tie and my long brown hair falls to my shoulders. She ties the strawberry patterned head scarf she was wearing into my hair and tucks my bangs underneath.
"There." She sighs, stepping back to admire her work.
"You look hot An!" Devin adds.
"Now you are gonna meet some gorgeous guy and you'll hook up and well, you can thank me later." Ali says giving me a small wink.
"Thanks guys" I reply, laughing.
"Now lets party!" Devin grabs our arms pulling us forward and towards the gates.
