Chapter#1

My brother’s birthday party, sure, it should be normal. Just like it has been for the last twelve years, but my aunt decided to bring her son? My aunt Meg, had never told us she had any children but here was Liam. He looked about my age, no, he is my age. He sat there with two girls also my age, Lily and Jane, they all had long hair and the same outfit. Liam’s hair was about the same length as mine, maybe a little shorter. It was the same color as Meg’s, pitch black. Why hadn’t she told us she had a son? Was he older? No. I would always be the first grandchild, and even if he was older, it wouldn’t matter.

“ Erika! Who is he? And why are they here?” My favorite cousin Kira asked and I smiled, she was just a few months younger then me. She had the same color hair, but brown eyes. “ Come on spill! Word has it he’s your cousin,” She said and I glanced at the cruel looking boy only about 20 feet in front of me. Kira waved her slender hand in front of my face, trying to get my attention. Attention I reluctantly gave her, pulling my gaze away from the eerie boy in front of me. I couldn’t fight the urge to want to go up and ask him questions. I would if Kira wasn’t standing in front of me asking me questions, questions I couldn’t answer.

“ Kira! Calm down, all I know is he’s my aunt Meg’s son. Honestly, I’ve never seen him in my entire life. Besides his friends Lily and Jane are just plain creepy!” I sighed finding a place to sit and looking back up into his bluish green eyes. He looked at me, and I quickly looked away feeling intimidated by him. Should I feel this way about my cousin? I glanced at my aunt as she motioned for them to follow her, this was my chance. I was going to find out more about my eerie cousin. I looked at Kira, “ I’ll be right back.” I whispered following them towards the woods in my grandparents yard, it was a good thing I knew my way around. Liam and the girls moved really fast, but they couldn’t know their way around. It had taken me almost twelve years! Although I consider myself a pro now. That was a long time ago, now I could tell you where anything was and how to get there. I slipped my flip flops on, and tried to be as quit as I could. We came to the retreating line as we passed my grandparents garden, and I saw the pine tree’s nearing an entrance. My aunt was just beyond, in the center wear we used to go for tractor rides. I followed as closely as I could, but I had to make sure they couldn’t see me. Was it a coincidence, my brother, my cousins, and I used to play spies here as we were kids? Now spying on my Aunt and so called cousin, I began to wonder.

“ Meg, why are we here?” Liam asked and I rolled my eyes, but I wanted to know the answer myself. I slowly kneeled behind a tree, and looked through the branches. I made out their cream jackets, and their long hair. My aunt looked at each of them, and then looked around the wooded area. My heart raced, as her gaze lingered on my tree, but after a few seconds she looked back at Liam. Relief filled me as I realized she couldn’t see me, and I felt a smile falling onto my face.

“ The society, told me to watch you! I had my nephew’s birthday party, I cant miss every family affair because of you. Besides, I miss enough time with them and I can tell they are getting suspicious. Especially of you! Lighten up and talk,” Aunt Meg scolded and I smiled, she had noticed the tension around them. Sure they hadn’t grown up around us, but still they should try and talk. “ Talk to my niece Erika, she’s your age. I think her cousin Kira is too,” I almost laughed, but kept it inside, sure Kira wasn’t her niece but doesn’t she see me talking to her all the time? The pine needle’s stuck to my skin as I waited, just what was the society?

“ Meg, perhaps we should leave? I mean honestly have you seen the way everyone looks at us? Especially your niece, she suspects something,” Lily said looking at Liam, her voice harsh, just like Liam’s had been. “ The Blackstone society is more then this! I was raised in it just as Liam and Jane, you may be new just because you decided to date Rick. He trusts you for some reason, but you don’t know the rules!” Lily insisted and I tried to figure out what the Blackstone society could be? Who is Rick? Why hadn’t she told us about he recent boyfriend?

“ We are staying for at least another hour, but first we must talk to Rick,” Meg said and I watched waiting for something to happen. I noticed she had grabbed out her cell phone, and it was ringing. I could barely hear it, but I could. Hopefully he had a loud voice. Something had happened to the Aunt Meg I had once known, this wasn’t her, she had always been nice. Not once had I ever seen her smirk. Or keep secrets for that matter, who was this Rick, and why hadn’t she told us about her mysterious new boyfriend.

“ Meg dear, how is your nephew’s party?” I assumed it was Rick who was talking, and Liam, Lily, and Jane kneeled. What was going on? I notice the Meg was looking directly into the phone and smiling. Liam was bowing his head along with Lily and Jane. I’m going to call them the evil twins, the look so similar and I don’t like them.

“ Okay, I guess, but I miss you. Next time you should come, it could just be you me and Liam,” Meg said seductively and Liam looked right at me, and that is when I sneezed. Great timing right? Liam got up and walked right towards me, everyone’s gaze was on me. Shoot! I was in trouble wasn’t I? I felt Liam’s arm’s wrap around me, pulling me up from the pine needle’s. Liam pulled me to my aunt, who looked directly into her phone. I realized quickly that I could see this man, Rick in the phone. He looked at me, and I felt like I was looking into the eyes of the devil. I felt my heart race, as I knew this wasn’t going to end very well.
