Chapter 1 - Just Another Day....
I woke up quite early today, around 6 or something, which is very unlike me. I wonder why I'm not getting proper sleep of late? Maybe due to this overwhelming excitement about upcoming events. Anyway, brushing away these senseless thoughts I stepped into my bathroom, the cool of the hard ceramic tiles beneath my feet sent shivers down my spine. After taking a hot soothing shower, I changed into my warm robe, I came to the huge window in my room, my favorite spot overlooking the front lawn. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath taking in the freshness of this beautiful morning. I was standing there with my eyes still closed when the sound of a bicycle bell startled me, I opened my eyes to spot Jazeem passing by on his bike, flashing his cheeky million dollar smile. Gosh! Jazeem, I waved at him and he winked in return! Eeepp.......he winked at me, this is unbelievable, the most popular guy in school and moreover my crush, winked at me. Nothing could be better than this!
Had it not been mom calling me for breakfast, I would have stood by the window dreaming of him for the whole day! Well, on this "auspicious" note I started off my day. I quickly got dressed, grabbed my backpack and my cell before going downstairs for breakfast.
As I stepped onto the last stair I almost bumped into mom who was carrying the breakfast, and thank god for my quick reflex that I moved quickly and escaped the spilling food onto my neat uniform. Oh! wait did I tell you? I'm also a cleanliness freak.
"Watch out dear, which world are you lost in?" mom said startled.
"In Jazeem's dreamland....", thank God I didn't say something like this, eventhough it was at the tip of my tongue, but I controled myself.
"Sorry mom", I said before walking behind her to the dinning area. As I took my seat across mom, I saw dad reading newspaper, mom serving breakfast and my sweet little brother 'struggling' to eat his food with a spoon.
"How typical", I murmered under my breath.
My Dad works with Adventia, a tea-processing firm in my city as the CEO. My mom is a kindergarden teacher in a playschool called Prime Years in which my younger brother Ikram studies. Ikram, my younger brother, is 5 & unbearable cute!
Khizar, my elder brother, is 4 years elder to me. He has been studing in Silver Oaks, Manali for the past 2 years. "Your exams are over, aren't they?" dad asked without looking at me.
"Yes Dad, they are." I replied munching on my sandwich.
"Then why do you have to go to school, of course there must be no studies going on, so what is the need to waste you time like this? Anyway school shall close for vacation in less than 3 weeks, so instead of fooling around why don't you enroll in a computer course class? Like web designing or Java?" He said while keeping the paper neatly folded beside his plate & looking straight at me.
"Yes dad but the farewell party is in 3 weeks, and I have a lot of organising stuff to do" I said calmly.
"The farewell is supposed to be organised by the juniors, isn't it?" He said.
"Well, yeah but beacuse I'm still the head of cultural activity committee, I must be there to make sure things are running smoothly. And besides that we also have career counselling & guidance classes going on", I explained.
"Stop wasting your time in useless activities and do something materialistic", he said getting back to the newspaper.
"Yeah I would have done something 'Materialistic' if only you would have been there to guide me. Instead you found your work, your clients, their dinner parties, and social groups more important than me! I mean come on, do you even know my favorite dish, my favorite color, forget that do you even know my school timings? So, because you don't give a damn to what I like to do, I don't give a damn to what you think I should be doing!"....Boy!! I should have said that, yeah and then Dad would have taken me for a dinner as a reward, right!? My heart & brain kept on arguing meanwhile I nodded to Dad, got up, uttered a quick "See ya" to Mom & made my way to the front door.
