“Please! Krishna don’t plead me. You need not prove anything to me. I know that you love me.” She broke the hug and ran away. After making sure that she was safely home, he sighed and headed to his home.

The next morning, news spread in the village that Radha suffered from high fever.

Krishna rushed to her home. A doctor was called to treat her. “What could be the reason?” He wondered.
“She drenched in rain.” Her mother informed.
“She was working hard. Maybe she was too tired.” An elderly woman interrupted. “She was skipping her food and sleep.” Another lady added.

Krishna sighed. Only he knew why she was ill. {I made her ill. She drenched in rain because of me. She skipped her meals and sleep for decorating my house. If I had not forced my father to shift here, this would not have happened. She even told me openly that I am not good for her health. But I …} He found a hand on his shoulder and turned around to find her father.

“Uncle! I …” He was interrupted by Vrishabhanu ji.

“Don’t get so worried. It is just fever. She will be fine soon.” He gave a reassuring smile.

“But uncle, can I keep visiting to check on her until she is well?” He eagerly asked.

Her parents looked confused and worried for a moment. But they ultimately agreed.

“Thank you!” He excitedly said and moved out of the house to find his brother waiting for him.

“You rushed to her house like it was on fire! It is just a simple fever.” Ram smirked.

“Bhai! That … You will not understand.”

“You are right. I will not understand your loving heart.”

“What do you mean?”

“Rumours spread faster than forest fire. The whole village knows that you both are in love.”

“But …”

“Don’t act too innocent dear. And let me tell you that people are smart enough to guess why you forced our father to shift here.”

“Yes! I love her. So, what?” Krishna shouted.

“Nothing!” Ram shrugged.

“They were only guessing it until now. Now it is confirmed.” He pointed towards the villagers who were staring at Krishna with shock and admiration.

Krishna passed them a smile and left from there.

By evening, her condition became better. Krishna stayed by her all the time, administering her medicines. He lost track of time, while taking care of her.

“It is already night, Krishna. And we will take care of her. After all, she is our daughter. So, you can trust us.” Vrishabhanu ji assured Krishna.

“Your mother is getting worried.” Radha’s mother informed.

He was left with no option but to leave his love in their care and head home.

“What made you so busy today, mister?” Yashoda teased.

“Mom! She is ill … because of me.” Krishna said with crestfallen face.

“No dear! Why are you thinking like that?” Now she was worried.

“Mom! I love her.” His tone pinched her heart. There was so much depth in it.

“That I know.” She said calmly.

“But both of us know that we cannot stay together forever.”
