“Radha! Where have you been?” Her mother interrogated her, the moment she stepped inside.
“Ma! I …”
“Were with that black boy?” Her mother’s tone got harsh. Radha simply nodded. Her mother sighed.
“You spent the whole night in the arms of a boy!!!! What is wrong with you? Your father and I are planning to get you married and you … you have gotten yourself into an affair with some boy! Instead of this, why don’t you just kill us Radha? Do you know how it hurts when someone mentions seeing you in his lap! Who would come ahead to marry you, if … if …” She burst into tears.
Radha was shocked. “Ma! How can you say that about me … about us? He … he is my husband. I was with my husband for the whole night. And our love is pure. It is not what others call it … or you think. I have always belonged to him and I will always belong to him.” With that, she ran out of the house, tears streaming from her eyes.
She ran aimlessly, only to collide with a strong chest and be wrapped in a pair of strong arms. Without even looking at the face, she recognized the person and buried her face in his chest.
“What happened Radha?” Krishna asked with concern tinting his voice. She wanted to speak, but she felt a lump in her throat. So, she just let the sobs escape her throat. He let her sob, stroking her hair. After a while, she looked up, wiping tears from her cheeks. He grabbed her wrists with one hand and wiped her tears away with other. Her already flushed face took a deeper shade of red.
He smiled. “What happened Radha?” he repeated his question patiently. She took a deep breath and narrated her conversation with her mother. His face turned pale at first. It became devoid of all emotions. She sniffed, trying to read his face.
After a few minutes, he smiled and grabbed her hand. She didn’t ask him where he was taking her, because she didn’t care, when she had him with her.
They came to a stop and Radha gasped as she took in her surroundings. It was the place they met for the first time! It was her favourite place! {Oh well! It was! But after I met him; each place I visited with him, became my favourite.} A smile crept onto her lips, as that thought flashed in her head.
He left her hand and leaned onto one of the old pillars of the abandoned temple. Something was different about that day. {Was it because I confessed to my mother regarding my relationship with Krishna? No … there was something more.} As she shunned those thoughts away, she noticed an awkward weight fill up her chest. She felt strange emptiness. It was not that emptiness which she felt with Krishna. It was different this time. It was blank. Plain blank. Plain void.
Krishna crossed his arms around his chest and let out a sigh. “Radha! I was heading towards your home when I found you on the way, crying.”
Her eyes widened. “Why?” She knew that she wouldn’t like his reply, even before he voiced it.
“I wanted to inform you about …”
Something snapped in her heart. Her eyes filled with tears. She didn’t need him to explain. She knew it already.
“You … are … leaving.” She stated.
He looked taken aback. “Radha … actually … I need to go to Mathura … to …”
She raised her palm, signalling him to stop. “All that doesn’t matter. Are you going to return or not?”
He fell silent. She got her answer, though it wasn’t what she wanted.
“I knew it. I knew that you would leave one day. I was warned. I … I … but … why so soon? I thought I had more time with you … I … I …” She slumped on the floor, burying her face in her palms. {Yes! Today proved to change my life … forever}
He rushed to her, scooping her up in his arms and entering the temple.
Thunder boomed and it poured heavily outside.
“Radha! Please don’t cry. I can’t see you crying. I … promise. I will never leave you. I will always be with you. Please Radha!” Radha looked at his face. His sad eyes broke her even more.
She decided to stop crying, for him. She wiped her tears and flashed him a smile. “I am fine. I love you. So, I am never going to lose you. I am yours forever. This physical distance is not going to separate us.”
Krishna smiled through tears. {This is why I love you Radha!} He kissed her forehead lovingly, thus sealing their bond. She was, is and will always be his only true love. He is her MannMohan and she is his Radherani. She is the queen of Vrindavan and also his heart.
The rain stopped and sun shone. But Krishna and Radha were wrapped in each other’s arms. After what seemed like eternity, Krishna dropped his arms from around her. She got the signal.
Before breaking the embrace, she inhaled his scent to her heart's content and kissed his chest, right above his leaping heart.
Krishna shuddered at the contact of her lips, as an electric shock ran through his spine. He realised that she permanently engraved their moments of love and togetherness into his heart; with that kiss. He closed his eyes to relish the feel.
“Radha! I thought I would die without feeling your lips. You saved me from that disappointment.” He teased her.
She blushed and hit his arm. “I didn’t kiss you. I kissed the whole world.”
Confusion etched his face.
She smirked. “You fit the world in your heart. I kissed your heart i.e. the world; with respect, because it was strong enough to take you away from me. It is more important, right?” Krishna gasped at the sharp pain he felt.
“No Radha! My heart belongs to you alone. By kissing my heart, you kissed yourself. If you wanted to kiss the world, you should have kissed here.” He pointed towards his mouth.
[“Krishna! Did you eat mud? Open your mouth. Let me see.” Krishna pouted first. But eventually he opened his mouth. Yashoda almost fainted at the sight of the entire universe in his tiny mouth.]
Radha blushed and lowered her eyes. Krishna cupped her face in his palms and kissed her eyelids. When she lifted her eyelids after relishing the feel, he looked in her eyes and smiled.
“And I kissed myself by kissing your eyes. Remember Radha! I reside in your eyes. If you cry, I will melt into the tears and fall to ground. So never cry.” She smiled, promising him silently that she would never shed tears.
With a final kiss on her forehead, he turned back and walked away.He never looked back once. Her eyes never left him once. The moment he was out of her sight, she closed her eyes.
... And he smiled at her. She smiled back.
***************************
And ....
The story ends here.
But .... You people want an epilogue?
I will try to write it if you want.
Do give me suggestions if you want it ...
Though I don't consider this 'end' abrupt, considering the book "The Sacred Violet Heart" a sequel to the story ... I don't mind writing one more chapter after this. And one more thing...
"I reside in your eyes. If you cry, I will melt into your tears and fall to ground" This particular phrase can be found in a Telugu movie called 'Chakram'. I felt awed when I first heard it.
I felt it synced well in this story when I was writing it and just couldn't help using it here...
Credits for the dialogue to original author.
Hope I have not hurt anyone by its use.
