The fact that a few days after the phoney news of Bernard's engagement was announced had passed and the media was still buzzing with the news, troubled Bernard greatly. While he had gotten the reporter to retract the news, it did nothing to abate the rumors. Some news outlets were even claiming he wanted to keep things private.

Even now, as Amanda sat before him, a bright smile on her face, he couldn't help but dread the fact that whatever news she had involved his so called engagement.

“Will you keep smiling like a child at Christmas or just tell me what all this is about?” He heaved a frustrated breath.

“Obviously, your engagement.” Her smile widened. “Oh, what the heck! I got a call this morning and you've been invited to the Paris Fashion week...”

Bernard's mouth hung open.

“Wait for it, Bernard, this is the part you're dying to hear about.” Amanda's eyes twinkled. “Darlene called...” Amanda squealed, her hands clasped before her in excitement.

“Why?” He whispered, shocked.

“Oh, something to do with your engagement. Listen Bernard, in two weeks, you've transition from being partly hated and mostly ignored to being the most loved and sort after bachelor in the fashion industry. The media will not shut up about this mysterious Belle woman! They all think it's cute how you transition from being a chauvinist to being in love.” Amanda leaned forward, “I don't care what you have to do, Bernard, but find that house sitter and put a ring on it!”

Shoving the front door open, Jeanie made her way into her apartment. She had spent her entire day going for job interviews with no progress whatsoever.

Her eyes caught glimpse of the blinking answering machine and with a sigh, she pressed the button to listen to her messages.

“Jeanie, I don't care if you did gorge out your eyes, I need my rent by the end of the week or I'll be sure to kick you out!”

Jeanie made a face at the answering machine. So, she was behind on her rent but at least she was trying!

The next message was from Stacy, then there was a message from an advertisement company trying to sell a product she didn't care for and a message from her mother inquiring about her social life; did Jeanie know how old she was and how much faster her biological clocks were ticking?! Exhausted, she reached for the machine, deciding she'd listen to the rest of the messages in the morning.

“Hey, Jeanie, it's me, Amanda.”

Jeanie's finger paused on the button.

“I'm calling to set up an appointment with you and Mr Moreau...”

“Oh my goodness!” She breathed, tears filling her eyes. Her life couldn't possibly be getting worse than it already was. She seriously couldn't afford a lawsuit.

“Do call me back, Jeanie. I look forward to hearing from you.”

Jeanie crashed on the couch, exhausted. Maybe if she closed her eyes, she'd wake up in a land far far away, without fear and most definitely without a lawsuit that was certainly underway!
