Chapter 4:

The next morning, I woke up feeling excited and bubbly. Two emotions I rarely feel on a weekday, or ever. I turned on my Bose speakers, as music loud enough to be heard by our neighbours blared from them, loud enough to be heard by our neighbours. After the shower, I followed my usual make up routine, which majorly consisted of a perfume explosion on myself of my favourite fragrance of the day. Today, I chose Cactus Bloom with Coconut. I also wear eyeliner, but that happens only when Daphne is at home and ties me down to apply mascara and a layer of black eyeliner. I jumped around my room wearing a loose shirt and my boxer shorts as I called Ross and yelled over the music, "Pick me up, doofus." I didn't bother to wait for his reply and I continued jamming to some random rock songs from my playlist. I heard a knock on my door. "Mate, get in already!" I screamed, as I stood behind the door, ready to jump on Ross. He entered and he was wearing a hood, as I thought, "Who wears a hoodie when it's 40 degrees' Celsius outside?" He walked in slowly, and I jumped onto his back and I screamed like a banshee. But for the first time, he fell down! Ross has never fallen down when I jump on him, because he has a back of steel. At least I thought he did! He asked, "Whoa! Can you calm down baby doll?" I held his hands and tied them from the back as he groaned in pain, "Who are you?" I yelled and as he turned his face, I took off the hood, to reveal perfect dirty blonde hair and a cheeky smile from Trent Boult. I punched him on his face and he screamed as I got off him and pulled him up. "What are you doing and why did my mom let you in?" He responded with, "Calm down baby doll." I kicked him on the shin, "Don't call me baby doll you worthless..." My mom walked in and stared at me with a disappointed look, "Why?"

I dragged this man-guy downstairs as he winced in pain along the way. I took him near the freezer and took out a bag of frozen peas for his shin and a bag of frozen corn for his face. He winced every two seconds and groaned occasionally. I went to the medicine cabinet and took the gel that I used to give Ross when we fought. I squeezed it out and applied it on his face, where there was a red bruise on his cheek. He hissed and I think the pain subdued immediately. My mom called me out and I went to the living room where she was standing with her hands on her hips and an expression that I guessed was anger. "What were you thinking? Would you care to explain yourself, Jade Penelope Vance?"

I started narrating in a monotonous voice, "I thought he was Ross so I jumped on him. And it turned out to be the creep from school." My mom's expression softened, but I know she's still mad at me. "Honey, that 'creep' is going to live opposite the road." I stared at her with a blank expression and blinked continuously. Why does this kind of cliché thing happen to me, out of all people present on this widely populated Earth? I shrugged my shoulders at my mom while I screamed in my mind. I've dealt with arrogant people before, like Daphne. I think I can deal with this guy. "Why are you here?" I asked him reluctantly.

"I was going to take you to school because we're opposite house neighbours now!"

"Firstly, we can't be neighbours if you live across the road and secondly, nobody asked you to," I retorted.

Then my mom said, "Actually, I did. You need to get more friends. Therefore, I invited this young man, who also goes to your school, to drop you there. And I hope you will socialize with him in a civilized manner. Is that understood?"

I huffed and crossed my arms, like a 5-year-old and said, "But..." but my mom interrupted and said, "If you don't go with Trent, I will ban your library privileges and you can't meet Ross for a week." I gasped. I can't live for a week without either of them. I heard Trent mumble, "Nerd." I was now in front of him, so I hit him on his stomach. "Owl!" He yelped. "Behave yourself and remember what I told you." I rolled my eyes. I went to my room and grabbed a pair of blue jeans, wore Ross's blue shirt which says 'Meh!', grabbed a blue scrunchie and walked out. I walked down and grabbed my pair of red and grey Lee Coopers, which most people assume are Converse, even though they're very different. I walked out to see Trent's vehicle, which I assumed would be a car, but ended up being a bike. And not just any bike, it was a Royal Enfield. And not just any Royal Enfield, it was a Bullet 300. I almost fainted at the sight of this beautiful bike. It had red streaks, but a black label on the seat that said Boult in gold letters ruined its beauty. Trent put his hood on again. I cleared my throat and said, "You have an amazing bike mate," I paused and then said quickly, "Can I ride it?" He laughed and stared at me. "What doll, you're not scared of riding the big bad motorcycle?" Oh my god! This is so typical of the male mind. She's a girl; she's going to get scared of something that goes as fast as a Bullet 300. I went into the house and took my dad's helmet, got on his bike, with my hands on the throttle and yelled to Trent, "Are you not coming?" He chuckled slowly and got behind as I started up the beauty. "Hold on pretty boy."
