My Mate's a Jerk... say what?!

I awoke this morning with a smile plastered on my face. It’s my seventeenth birthday, the day I’ve been waiting for all my life, the day I get full access of my powers and the day I become aware with my mate’s presence.

I jumped of my bed letting my sheets fall in the process. I quickly took a shower and got dressed. A pair of jeans and a simple white blouse with a black leather jacket will be okay even for a special day. Grabbing my black knee length high-heeled boots, my phone and my keys I hurried down stairs only to be greeted with a note placed on the end of our massive staircase.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY. Sorry we had to go to a meeting early today, no worries, we’ll be back before dinner, make sure you too, okay? Enjoy your day baby.

the letter says.  Arghh, one of the many disadvantages of being an Alpha’s daughter. ‘Atleast I  still have Stephan, right?’. Just as I ask myself, I found another letter on the small table just beside the stairs.

“Left early for Football practice, see you at school.. Happy birthday brat xP ---your loving brother Stephan”

I scoffed after reading his letter, my brother must really love me so much. NOT!

Grabbing a banana and yogurt I left for school, I’m so not planning to spend my birthday morning alone.

Walking swiftly pass the students I spotted my best friend Mara Allison giggling at whatever Kevin Vermont  had say. They aren’t mates but I wish they were.

“Birthday girl has finally arrived!” she squealed happily when she noticed me standing near the ID scanner. Yeah, our school has that.

“Happy birthday Schuyler…” Kevin saluted me while taking a step forward with Mara.

“thank you.” I attacked them with a big hug. And after a sec, I felt two more persons joining in. Hailey Sanders and Van Gil, my two other friends. The five of us literally grow up together, we’re members of the same pack, we knew each other since diapers.

“tell me again why we’re hugging?” Van asked obviously joking as we withdrew from the hug.

“Schuyler’s birthday!” Hailey, Kevin and Mara answered in unison.

“of course I knew, we celebrate this like every year,” He said wrapping an arm around Hailey’s waist. There mates and they found out two months ago after Hailey’s sixteenth birthday.

“Not this year though, we did not plan a party” I told them. I noticed Van was about to say something when Hailey nudged him.

“what was that?” I asked bewildered.

“nothing, come on will be late for class.” The five of us have the same first subject, English with Ms. Williams.
