Working at CD shop for eight hours in a row can definitely be tiring, today was definite proof of that. My work mate and close friend Jasmine couldn't come in today so I had to take her shifts, that added an extra three hours onto my usual working day. But on the bright side, more money for me to spend.
Rather then stopping at home before going to Shauns, I decided I'd bring all of my stuff to work with me and go straight there. It's already late enough as it is and I have been getting texts from Shaun for an hour now asking me to 'Hurry up' so I'm guessing that going home and having a shower is not an option anyways.
I say goodbye to my boss before I leave the store. She hands me my cheque and thanks me for working all of the extra hours, I thank her for the cheque and rush to the car only because my bag seems to be extremely heavy, heavier then I remember it being.
During the drive I listen to Good Charlotte which puts me in a calm state of mind. It's odd I haven't realised this before but Shaun's house is kind of in the middle of no where. I love it though, it's truly my favourite place. Budgewoi's a peaceful little town, the people are all friendly. Well most of them are. I shouldn't complain about living here as much as I do. The best part though is the fact that there's not much to do except surf and write music. It's what inspired Short Stack, there's no place I'd rather be then here.
I pull into the driveway, It's weird to not see Shauns mums car parked, she'd usually be home from work this time on a Saturday. I step out of the car and take swift steps to the front door. As I get closer to the front steps I hear a rattling and shaking coming from inside the bushes beside me, I shrug it off. The rattling starts again but this time louder, I swear I hear some one laugh but I could be imagining things. This time as I look to my right I see the leaves of the shrubs moving, I'm not hallucinating what so ever. Any bet it's Shaun and Andy trying to intimidate me, I use that as confidence to keep walking. As I take one final step Shaun and Andy jump out of the bushes on either side of me and shout 'A wild Andy and Shaun appeared' in synchronisation as an attempt to scare me, just as I guessed they would. I stand as still as a rock, not one word escapes my mouth.
"She's too good for us bro" Andy states, disappointed.
"That's right" I reply with the smuggest of grins on my face.
"I ordered pizza!" Shaun exclaims, not even acknowledging the subject.
Pizza is our Saturday night tradition. We have pizza every Saturday that we're together and it's always the same kind of pizza. Andy and I have Hawaiian, and Shaun has Meat Lovers. Andy and I always act disgusted that Shaun finds it appetizing to have barbecue sauce on a pizza. But other then that Andy will eat anything and everything you give him.
"Do you feel like watching Edward Scissorhand?" I ask them both.
They both agree that they want to watch it, I put the disk into the DVD player and sit between the two of them on the couch in the spot they left me. Shaun and I love Tim Burton movies, we've probably watched The Nightmare Before Christmas over a thousand times and it never get's old. I don't think it ever will to be honest.
Shaun, Andy and I sit quietly through out the first half of the movie, but like usual the serenity doesn't last long at all. The movies we watch we've seen so many times that it's expected that we get bored of it eventually. Again they talk about the excitement of touring with the Veronicas, which again, I find my self not contributing to. I'm happy for them, I've never been so happy, but they can't expect me to be slightly distraught.
Just as the movie's about to finish the TV flickers off and turns itself back on again, catching our immediate attention. We sit there in utter silence. It turns off again but this time, It doesn't turn back on. Then suddenly, along with the television all of the power in the house turns off all in one flicker. We all look at each other, which would be impossible if the sun wasn't still half up. Luckily there's enough sun shining through the window to allow us to see around the house. This encourages Shaun to immediately jump up from the couch and run to the front door, I watch him until he disappears around the corner. I hear the front door handle turn and open, there's silence through out the whole house.
"It's not just us, everyone's power is out" he informs us. "I'll get us some candles"
Andy and I get up and assist Shaun in lighting candles and putting them in different locations around the house just in case the power doesn't come back on for a while. I put a candle in the spare room in which I'll be sleeping, I hear foot steps behind me.
I feel a light tapping on my shoulder, when I turn around I see Andy's grinning face illuminated by a candle, trying to make himself scary looking as people do when they're telling a ghost story.
"You're supposed to do that with a torch" I say, and lightly punch his shoulder.
He laughs under his breath. "Do you want to go for a walk in the park? it's a nice night."
"What about Shaun?" I question, it'd be a bit rude to leave him home by himself to deal with the power outage.
"He said he has to stay here and wait for the pizza, he said it's alright we go" that cheeky grin is plastered on his face.
I agree to go with him.
