It was the reaping for the 90th hunger games. Katniss and Peeta have a 12 year old daughter that was entered for the first time. They also had 3 other kids one was a boy at the age of 15 then the other two kids are girls at 9 and 5.throughout the night Katniss kept having nightmares about Jaylei and Nick getting picked for the games and it was down the last 3 tributes and the district 2 male just killed nick and Jaylei can barely move then district 2 male keeps stabbing her everywhere. So she woke up screaming her head off at 5am. Then Nick and Jaylei ran into the room just as Peeta was waking her up and calming her down. Then she started to explain as the youngest two kids, Madison and Molly came in and started asking questions. Katniss started explaining that Nick, Jaylei, and Madison knew and Molly was just hearing it for the first time so you kids have been learning about the hunger games in school ok. Me and you dad have something very important to tell you about us like how I scream sometimes in the middle of the night or your father having an episode." Me and your mother were in the 74th and the 75th hunger games and after the war of rebellion ..." "dad got captured by the capitol while mom got out with the rebels right" " Right Nick so do any of kids especially Madison and Molly have any questions for us ?" "Daddy what was life before the hunger games you and mommy went in ?" Peeta answered with this "well molly there were the merchants where I lived and the seam ..." "where I lived and one horrible day me my mother and sister prim were slowly dieing of starvation until..." "I threw two burnt loaves of bread to her and then my mother gave me a black eye , you kids should never have to grow up like that ever. " then Katniss piped up" the bread that you threw me gave me a sign of hope that we have could have in the future and since the rebellion was working for a while it could been different like before the dark days and thank you saved us ." " Mommy where is your sister prim" then Katniss blacks out and starts yelling and as soon as she wakes up she runs straight for the bathroom and pukes. "kids this is the day that me and your mother hate, the reaping day now go get dressed and Nick make breakfast and your mother cheese buns." Peeta goes to check on Katniss and gets her ready for the reaping. While the kids are getting dressed and Nick is making breakfast Katniss starts to get paranoid.
I tell Nick to make sure they leave by 1:00 because the victors of past games has to be there 1 hour early. Now everyone is at the square waiting for the reaping. Now Effie says "welcome welcome to the 90th hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favor and we now welcome Haymitch Abernathy victor of the 50th hunger games and Katniss and Peeta Mellark victors of the 74th and 75th hunger games now where were we oh right now it is time to choose our tributes, ladies first here we go Jaylei Mellark" then I realized that was our daughter and Katniss was running to Jaylei to hide her at home then I started to run after her while peacekeepers hold her back while other march Jaylei up to the stage. Nick, Madison, and Molly were all shocked by the results. Then they were relieved when nick wasn't chosen for the games. Instead, Ryan Kaiytylle was chosen as the male tribute at 14 years old. And as usual the district gasped and murmured about a 12 year old just getting chosen not just that this year the female tribute was a daughter of two victors of two games each one of her parents was the mocking jay in war trying to save Peeta.
Once on the train Jaylei ran straight up to her dad as he was trying to calm Katniss down about Jaylei getting reaped for the games once Ryan found his mentors he say Jaylei and Katniss bursting out into tears is if they already knew the victor of these games. But all of the Mellark children have had lessons on how to hunt, climb trees, camouflage themselves, and any other important skills that they would need such as lifting weights or just getting their bodies into shape. So Peeta knew she would have a better chance of surviving and to make alliances such as when rue and Katniss became allies or Peeta and the Career Pack. Later that night Katniss yet again thrashes in Peeta's' arms as she screamed, sweated, and cried before Peeta woke up and started to calm her down before she woke up Ryan and Jaylei. The next morning after breakfast the six watched both of Katniss and Peeta's games and the reapings of all the districts including the 74th and 75th hunger games reapings. Then during the 74th reaping they called Primrose Everdeen for tribute and then Jaylei asks "mommy is that your sister and where is she you never told me?" Then Katniss looks at Peeta and he says "yes that was moms sister and she volunteered for her because your mom knew she wouldn't come home and she ... she um ...she died during the war that your mother lead about 15 years ago and after words she wouldn't talk for days and days. "Jaylei and Ryan all of this might be a little hard to take in and me and your father hope that someday we can live in a world where there is no fear about having children that someday could end up like us or you two." Katniss said hopefully "after lunch we can watch the war footage if Katniss is feeling up to it" "Peeta I can handle war footage we were in a war and two games back to back ok." "yes dear I understand just let me know if something is bothering you so we can talk ok" Peeta said sympathetically "ok" Katniss said in reply.
