I sat up, easily catching the attention of the human.
"Hey, are you ok? I didn't mean to put too much pressure on you there..." he said.
I absent-mindedly nodded, had I just... trusted a human? Well, I mean he helped me calm down through that... episode. And so far he wasn't showing any bad signs... Other than not letting me leave...
"How about we just start with your name then, " he said, "I'm Daren."
My name? He wanted to know my name? ...I'll just go through with it, whatever he's planing... it's probably not bad... after all, he is treating me like another human...
"Ally..." I said, taking a leap of faith, this was risky, even for the bravest borrower. I don't think any other borrowers would do something remotely as reckless as this, I regretted my decision as soon as the word came out of my mouth.
"Ally..." I heard him say, "Thats a great name..."
The next few minutes contained of him asking questions, and me answering them. I actually opened up a bit more, telling him what I am, where I've been, and what I've been doing... although in he back of my mind, I was still terrified of him.
"So you've been hiding away, and then taking food while I'm gone?" He asked.
"Yeah, uh...its the only way I know how to survive..." I explained.
"I will admit, that makes me a bit annoyed, but I still wont hurt you. I can understand why you do what you do, and I want to help you." He said.
I felt a stab of fear rip through my gut, I had annoyed him... That would be one step closer to being crushed...
"You know what?" He said, pulling me out of my panicked thoughts, "Next time you want something to eat, come to me. Okay? I'll always get you something," he said.
"Really?" I asked, a bit skeptical.
"Yeah, I'll even let you go, but you have to promise me one thing." He said.
"What-what's that?" I asked, wondering if this would be like some kind of 'Monkey's paw' situation deal.
"Please don't take food without me knowing okay? We wont be friends if you keep taking my things behind my back... I would feel better if I knew what you were doing." He explained.
That wasn't too bad of an exchange, If going out into the open and talking to a human meant making peace with him, and getting food... then I think thats worth it... I mean, if I moved I would have to start sneaking around in fear again... and I don't think any other human would be okay with a borrower in their house...
"Okay..." I said, "Just please let me roam where I may..."
"Of course." He said, holding out a finger towards me, "Deal?"
I hesitantly took his finger in my hand, and shook it, "Deal."
He smiled, then he slowly stood up and walked over to the kitchen. He got out a piece of watermelon, and gently set me down on the counter before handing the fruit to me, "I'm glad I could make peace with you." He admitted.
I took the pice of food in my hands, "I'm glad too..." I agreed, turning towards my outlet- door. I felt his gaze on my back as i walked towards it, but before I stepped inside, I stopped.
"Thank you Daren." I said. Before disappearing inside the walls.
