Katie sits in silence in the car, looking out the window daydreaming, as her fiancé drives them to college. College is where they two met and after just a week of flirting they started dating. It's been a few months and lately Jace had gotten worse and worse by being possessive and abusive. She had moved in with him to get away from her boring family in the hopes of having more adventure. He had seemed to go places everyday even if it was just to walk around the mall and point at people and laugh. With every day that passed she regretted more that she had moved in with him but she felt that if she left that he would make life at her small college a living hell. They had every class together and in some classes only had 5 students in them.

Startled out of her revelry, Katie flinches as Jace jerks the wheel to get her attention. She glances over at him warily as he begins to scream at her.

"This is why you should listen to me! What are you even thinking about?"

"Nothing," she says, cowering into the seat.

"Do you know I hate you sometimes, you're such a bitch," Jace yells as he speeds up the car and keeps glancing over at her.

"What did I do?"

"All you do is sit in silence over there in your little corner, you big baby, and you know I hate silence!"

"I'm sorry but I have nothing to talk about, what would you like to talk about? And you know there's a radio for a reason, right?"

"Don't be a bitch and I am always the one talking and you never come up with anything because you are a brain dead little Barbie," Jace yells before turning the radio up until their ears are ringing.

After a few minutes he turns it back off and looks at her waiting for something. Katie looks over at him and stammers that she still has nothing to say.

Jace speeds up the car to 70mph in a 45 and then slams on the breaks as he pulls over to the side of the road where there's a cover of trees.

"Get your ass over there," he screams and Katie is quick to rush over to the trees, hoping that maybe she'd have the courage to run but knowing he would probably catch her.

He comes up behind her and says slowly that he's going to teach the little girl some manners about conversation etiquette. Katie cowers as Jace begins his regular routine of throwing her to the ground and kicking her and punching her in the stomach before he kisses her and says this is what you deserve.

[This will be the start of many flashbacks to the story to try to set the mood on the journey of her relationship that drives her to do what she did.]
