Katie took a slow inhale of breath before her body understands what's happening around her. She hears constant beeping and low chatter before opening her eyes to see a shockingly white room, a hospital room.

Instant, she looks around for someone familiar and by her bed stands her parents. Katie's heart rate decreases before her eyes finish circling the room to find a man in uniform near the door glaring at her. It takes her a minute to process before she remembers all the events that happened before she came to be in this room.

Oh crap! Of course I can't even get a moment of peace with my parents before I get questioned. I might as well enjoy this moment before I only get visitation with my parents in the pathetic jail they have in this puny county.

"What happened," Katie asks before adding "and explain to me in English please," when she sees the doctor.

Katie's parents rush to hold her hand as they begin explaining that she was in a car crash before everyone in the room seems to keep interrupting.

The doctor begins, "We had to put you into an intentional coma so that we could make sure your brain damage wasn't too severe. The car wreck you survived was a miracle," he finishes before being interrupted.

"You mean the car wreck she intentionally caused," the cop states loudly as he steps forward.

"Not now," Katie's mom yells in his direction while eyes glued to her daughter.

"I don't," Katie gasps before becoming silent hoping someone else will come to her rescue before she is questioned.

"Your injuries include a shattered shoulder, a little internal bleeding, and your brain was swollen. We tended to all of that and other than the arm sling you should be fine as long as you don't overwork yourself. You are well enough to go back to school," the doctor explains.

"Not to mention the injuries that aren't consistent with the crash," the cop reminds the doctor.

The doctor rolls his eyes behind the cops back before telling her. "You have major scrapes on the palms of your hands like you tried to scrape the skin off completely and some nails missing. Also, on your back there are large bruises. None of those injuries are consistent with the car crash because of how the wreck happened. I'm not sure how he came to find out about any of it."

The cop laughs and says, "Well, I only assumed about the hands but thank you for that additional information."

Katie looks around at everyone not knowing what to say before the cop asks her, "The reason I'm here is to find out if you know where your boyfriend is?"

"I have no idea," Katie says while giving him a forced frown.

"All the more fun for me then! Why don't you say goodbye to your parents and we can head to the station together," the cop says while giving her the first smile of the evening.
