Chapter 2
__________________________________________________________________________
'Tree's? Where am I?'
Kaia seemed to be wrapped in her thoughts of these strange woods that she has suddenly woken up in as she began to walk through it. As she continued to walk through these dark woods she found a small tree appear up ahead. It was an odd tree with only thirteen leaves. Kaia began to move toward the tree to inspect it more closely. As she comes closer she saw many leaves littering the ground around the tree. She then noticed some of the leaves starting to fall off, leaving all but one that had begun to turn to a sickening shade of yellow, crumpling into a tiny ball not even recognizable as a leaf.
All of a sudden, red drops began to form on the leaves, soon pooling the entire ground around them also turning the leaves themselves a red color. Kaia began to move away from this scene but the red seemed to be following her, engulfing everything in its shade around her. All she could think of now was getting away as she began to run.
Faster.
Faster.
No matter how fast she ran everytime she looked back she would only see red.
And then....
She woke up, startled and surprised. She looked around and saw she was still in the car she had fallen asleep in who knows how long ago.
"Thank god," Kaia muttered to herself. Hearing something Atticus peeked a look to the back from the road and saw Kaia staring out the window with a thoughtful look on her face.
"Seems like someone's finally up," Atticus teased as he turned back to the road. Teresa, who was sitting in the front passenger seat turned to look at Kaia and noticed her thoughtful expression.
"You okay?" she asked with concern hinted in her voice.
A long moment after Kaia finally realized that she was speaking to her she turned and replied with a smile on her face, "I'm perfectly fine, why do you ask?"
Teresa stared at Kaia's face curiously for a moment before responding, "You looked like you were thinking about something serious."
"Oh! Did I? Well it was because I was wondering when we were gonna get to the hotel."
"Well you don't have to wonder anymore coz' we're almost there!" Atticus answered. He then brought the car in through a somewhat narrow nature path from the main concrete road which lead into the woods. Atticus then abrubtly stopped the car, which caused Kaia to fall forwards.
"What'd you do that for?!"
"Well the road sorta stops here and I didn't think you wanted us to crash into this big tree, did you?" Atticus calmly explained as he got out of the car. Kaia finally looked out the window and saw a vast sea of trees.
"Wow . . . that's a lot of trees . . ." Atticus headed toward the back of the car to grab their things.
"Hurry up and get your stuff! I'm not carrying it!" Atticus anounced. Kaia and Teresa both looked at each other before sighing and beginning to get their things.
"I hope we can relax after this . . ." Kaia murmured to herself.
