Chapter 3

______________________________________________________________

'So many trees! I better not be dreaming again. . .', Kaia thought tiredly.

"Are we there yet?" Teresa asked curiously.

"No", Atticus replied sternly while staring intently at a map in his hands, turning it a full 360°, several times.

"Well are we closer to it now?"

"About five feet closer than the last time you asked", sarcasm evident in his voice.

"Then tell me how long it's gonna take before getting there!"

Atticus paused for a moment while staring at the map in a most confused fashion.

"We'll probably be there in twenty minutes." he announced unsurely before muttering under his breath, "Or twenty hours . . ."

Eventually, after walking around continuously  for who knows how long, they found a wide path, lined with tall trees. At the end of this path a tan and brown colored building could be seen.

"Finally! Civilization!", Teresa cheered.

The three began to walk at a more quicker pace now that they found their destination. Upon arriving in front of the building and going up the few steps to the door, Atticus happily opened it to reveal a large open room with many sofas and chairs where some people were seated to the right, and open space with the occasional potted plant to the left. Looking up you could count how many floors there were since the middle was of what should have been the ceiling was open space with the occasional staircase  going through the middle to the next floor. In front of them, all the way to the back of the room, was a counter where a lady with short light brown hair sat as if waiting just for them. A small shiver went down Kaia's spine when she looked at the lady.

'That was weird' Kaia thought slowly.

"You two can go sit while I get the keys to our rooms," Atticus volunteered and began to walk away.

Kaia felt a foreboding feeling as Atticus walked away, but shook it off as the fatigue of walking around the woods finally getting to her. As the two began to walk towards the lounge they noticed the other people who were also staying there with them.  On a love seat were two lovebirds who were cuddling with each other right in front of everybody else.

"Think they're on their honeymoon?" Teresa asked me.

"Seems like it," Kaia replied, and then noticed," They both have a ring."

"Oh. No wonder they're acting like that then."

On a nearby lounge chair was a guy who was apparently sleeping. He had a hat covering his face and was laying back in the chair with his arms behind his head - completely relaxed.

"People actually sleep with a hat on their face these days?" Teresa had only ever seen such a thing on television.

"We have a prime example in front of us."

" 'Kay guys let's get to our room!" Atticus informed from behind Kaia and Teresa with a girl that had long brown and the darkest brown eyes that could be mistaken for black. But being so tired, Kaia didn't notice her yet.

"Finally. What took you so long? I wanna sleep!" Kaia complained.

"Well I got them now so show some appreciation!"

" Why would I ever appreciate someone as tall as you?"

" What does height have to do with this?!"

" I don't know anymore just let me sleep! Where's our room? Please tell me we don't have to share it with you."

"Nope. I get to have a room all to myself," he grinned. "Anyways it's upstairs."

"Let's just get there already! I'm tired."

"Fine. By the way, this is Kiely," he introduced pointing to the brown haired girl beside him.

"Hi! Im Kiely and I'll be helping with getting your bags upstairs. We don't have an elevator and your rooms are on the fourth floor so your probably going to get tired," she introduced with a smile while grabbing two of the bags Kaia and Teresa held loosely in their hands. She then began to lead them all up the what seemed to be (well to Kaia) the never ending flight of of stairs. Finally reaching their destination Kaia leapt onto a bed as soon as the door to her room was open.

"Sleep at last," she purred happily.

But the happiness would not last long because then a scream could be heard coming from downstairs.
