You know, it's a funny thing. People, I mean. They're funny creatures. I guess I could be counted as one of these fleeting things, but I've always felt like an outsider looking in. I've spent all my life thinking I was just like anyone else. Denying the me I never wanted to be. That just made things worse, I guess. I never wanted to really do this. But, it sure as hell felt good when I did.
I'm lost in thought as the building is collapsing right before me. All I heard, felt, smelled, and saw was the wild flames as they danced in the moonlight that was dim in comparison.
I never thought I would do this. I've always thought about it, but never thought I'd take the initiative. I should feel bad, or even worried; but I don't.
I feel a strange, but welcomed satisfaction wash over me. I haven't felt like this in a long time.... I'm immediately pulled out of my trance as I hear sirens approaching my general directions. I start to walk away when I'm stopped by police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. The EMTs surround and pass me. I'm almost instantly bombarded with questions of "Are you okay?" and "What happened?". I don't really respond besides a few grunts and some "Yeah"'s thrown in. I just want to get out of there. I'm almost in the clear when a voice behind me says
"Ma'am, I'm gonna need you to come with me." Great, I'm really in for it now....
