"Erwin..." Hanji said softly. "They were great soldiers, but it's unrealistic to think that they could still be alive"
"I want a squad to keep watch over Wall Maria for the next few days, just in case. I believe in those four, especially Levi and Grace" Commander Erwin replied gravely.
"Even if they survived the night, there's no way they could make it back to wall Maria without-"
"Hanji" Erwin interrupted. "Who's the commander here?"
"Sorry sir"
"Grace" Levi groaned. "We need to rest"
"No" I replied, my voice hoarse, exhausted and barely more than a whisper after a day of walking without food. I'd given all I had to Levi because of his condition, but I was suffering for it. "We need to keep going"
"If we don't stop, we'll both die. Just a few hours" Levi said, looking at me with worried eyes.
I sighed and looked around for some shelter. "Okay. Let's keep going until we get to that tree over there"
"Okay"
The tree we decided to take shelter under was a willow tree, similar to the one Levi and I shared a love of back at the Survey Corps camp. I helped him off the horse and he sat down so that his back was resting against the trunk of the tree.
I sat next to him, my legs relieved that I was resting for a while.
"So, what's your story?" Levi spoke up.
I was surprised that he wasn't asleep already, and even more surprised that he was asking me a question."My story? What do you mean?" I asked, a bit taken aback my the question.
"Where are you from? How'd you get so good at fighting titans?" Levi looked at me, but surprisingly I didn't feel uncomfortable under his gaze.
"Well, I'm from Trost originally. My father was in the Survey Corps but he retired a few years back. He told me all kinds of stories about the world beyond the walls and I guess I wanted to see it for myself. I wanted to join the Survey Corps ever since I was a little girl, so my father taught me all the theory behind killing titans before I joined up. By the time I got here, I already knew everything"
"Smart ass" Levi teased.
I smiled at his cockiness. "Oh shut up. So why'd you ask anyway?"
He shrugged. "I'm interested"
I felt my heart beat a little bit faster. "In me?"
"Yes in you" I could feel Levi's eyes on me. "Is that so hard to believe?"
Suddenly, I felt slightly embarrassed. "Well...uh..I don't know"
We sat in silence for a few moments, before I mustered up the courage to speak again. I looked directly at Levi, trying my best not to break eye contact, and at the same time trying not to get lost in the flecks of hazel in his gorgeous eyes.
"Levi...listen"
He looked at me. "What's wrong?"
"I just want you to know that if we...you know..."
"If we what?"
I took a deep breath. "If we don't make it tomorrow I-"
My sentence was cut short by Levi closing the gap between us and pressing his lips against mine, capturing me in a soft yet desperate kiss full of longing. My heart beat uncontrollably in my chest as I melted into the kiss. Levi bit down on my lip gently and I ran a hand through his hair. I wanted it to last forever. It seemed as though being close to Levi took me away from all my problems.
