Jinx POV

See-more floated above the city, keeping an eye out for Kid Flash. He was the one member of the Hive Five I could actually depend on.

"Twenty metres to your left, Jinx," he said into his communicator.

"Thanks, See-more," I said, and noticed that a garage door had just closed in the exact location.

I made it burst apart with a jinx. Kid Flash, like the annoyingly cute and trusting idiot he was, rolled out from behind a stack of crates. "Jinx?" he whispered. "Are you... you?"

I blasted the floor with a hex, making a water pipe burst open and water sprayed straight into Kid Flash's face.

Bad luck, I thought smugly.

He sat there, dropping wet. "It's you," he said in a strained voice.

Kid Flash was obviously exhausted. I could tell from both his tone, his position and expression---he must've had a bad time with Madame Rouge.

"You made me look like a fool," I snarled. "What's the matter, run out of gas?"

"For now," he panted, leaning against a crate. "I'll have my strength back in a minute."

I narrowed my eyes. "I'm not going to give you a minute." I held out the level-four containment field.

"Why do you wanna be like her?" Kid Flash asked.

"I'm bad luck. Good was never an option for me. At least with the Brotherhood of Evil I can be somebody. I can get respect."

"You don't need to hurt people to feel good about yourself," he said.

I really don't need this right now!

I zapped him with the Level-Four containment field.

His screams were agonising. It chilled me to the bones, and only then did I realise how much it would hurt. But I still would have done it... right?

I shook off the doubts, trying to sound confident to hide my emotional turmoil. "And that's only Level One."

---------------

"Madame Rouge!" I gasped, seeing my idol behind the door. "I caught him! Just like I said I would!"

She backhanded me so hard I flew aside.

"You did nothing," she said scornfully. "It was I who made him weak. And you call yourself a villain. Pathetic."

"I wanted someone to look up to," I said weakly. "I thought you were cool."

Madame Rouge merely shrugged. "Life is full of disappointments. You are one of them. Hand him to me."

You sickening, disgusting liar. I can't believe I ever idolised you, or helped you with Kid Flash.

"Go catch him yourself," I hissed, and destroyed the remote controlling the level-four containment field.

Kid Flash stood up behind me, relieved. "Thanks." Then he was gone.

Goodbye, Kid Flash, I thought to myself. Be careful.

"You miserable---" Madame Rouge didn't get to finish her sentence before I threw her backwards with a jinx.

"I don't care who you are. Nobody messes with me," I said.

She stroked her chin. "We'll be in touch." With that, she went.

See-more came and tried to tempt me with a robbery, but I didn't want to. Kid Flash's words kept spinning around in my head.

I think you can do better. It's never too late. I know you're too smart for all this.

Finally, one sentence still hung there.

Trust me.

Suddenly, I stopped, sensing something in front of me. I looked down and saw a red rose, same as he had given me the first time we met. Thank you, Kid Flash, I thought.

I hope I'm not making a big mistake.
