Today flew by but it was mostly me running around the halls lost. It definitely is hard coming to a new a school in the middle of the year. Everyone already has friends and have no interest in me, I did get some weird stares from the news that flourished all over the school about me getting into that fight with Jessica. No one knows my name though I'm just referred to as the new girl or the one who Jessica slapped. I haven't seen Hadley at all though she totally disappeared on me. Brrrrriiiiiiiiing the bell echoed through the empty hallways into the classroom snapping me out of my thoughts. I sprung out of my seat and into the hallway, rushing down the hall not exactly sure where I'm going but I need to beat the crowds. Before I knew it I was lost and I was getting shoved every which way by giant high school trying to escape.

Peering over the crowds I saw my locker smiled and thought "Hey! There is my locker! Well, that is good to know." I got swept right past my locker by the crowd. Eventually, I made it to a door and rushed into the fresh California air. Wow, it is absolutely beautiful, the palm trees all around the school were gently swaying in the wind and pure joy was radiating from everyone. The sun warmed my cheeks and I couldn't stop smiling,  maybe I actually do like it here! "Hey, space cadet let's go!" I turned around to see Nick standing with a bunch of guys by his car. I jogged over up to them and smiled, " Hey what's up!" Nick smiled at me and looked at his new friends. "This is my little sister Carly." "Carly meet Jake, Andrew, Cody, and Juan." They were all big buff football player guys, definitely not my type. I just awkwardly waved at them and stayed silent. They all chuckled and except Cody eyed me suspiciously. " Are you the girl who Jessica slapped today?" Cody said curiously. Nick eyes widened and looked at me panicked. "Yea that was me, what do you care?" Nick tossed his head back and groaned, " Seriously Carly!? It's the freaking first day of school and someone has slapped you? What did you do!?" Cody chuckled and said, " Dude the whole school has been talking about your sis." "I'll tell you what happened later. " I said to Nick. Nick just sighed and said, " Just get in the car I'll be in a just a second.

" I shrugged and headed for the car until I heard someone call out my name behind me. Jessica and her little group were walking towards us with 4 HUGE guys by their sides. Oh no, this is not going to be good. I slowly walked over to them and stopped and waited for them to speak. Jessica stood there glaring at me and I could feel everyone holding their breath. Until finally she spoke, " I've come to give you a warning. Now I don't want any trouble but if you give me some you can be sure as hell you will get some back. I run this school and you do not want to know what I am capable of. So stay out of my way!" I laughed in response and said, " You think I'm scared of you!? HA! Hunny let me get something straight. None of your threats scare me. You can say anything you want about me but we all know who the real bad guy is here. So why don't you just stay out of my way!" Jessica looked taken aback by what I said. I guess she has never had someone not be scared of her. She bit her bottom lip and spoke, " Fine I was trying to let you off easy but I guess you will just have to learn the hard way." She snapped her fingers and two of the giant guys came walking towards me cracking their fists.

Regretting what I just said I started backing up. My heart was pounding in my chest and my stomach is twisting up in knots. Before they could get any closer to me Nick jumped in front of me and blocked them. " Now we don't any trouble, she has no idea what she is talking about. I promise I will set her straight there is no need to hurt her." The guys kept coming forward and looked about ready to punch my brother. The rest of the guys stepped in front of me too next to Nick. Nick glanced back at me nervously but kept his face emotionless. "Carly get in the car right now." I was too scared to move so I didn't.  Andrew looked at me and grabbed my arm and raced me to the car. The rest of them just stood there waiting for me to get in. Jessica was just standing there with arms crossed while smirking. I HATE HER SO MUCH I HATE HER GUTS!! Andrew shoved me into the backseat of the car and closed the door. As soon as the door closed the rest of the guys turned and ran to the car. Cody in the driver's seat hit the gas and we rocketed out of the school parking lot.

Nick was sitting right next to me with his back to me. I could tell he was super pissed off I reached out and put my hand his back. " I'm so sorry Nick I..." I wasn't sure what to say. He turned and looked at me with pure rage in his eyes, " I can not believe you did that!!!!!!!  WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN SERIOUSLY HURT!!!!!! MORE IMPORTANTLY, YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN HURT!!!!!! I don't know what I would do if you got hurt!!! You are so lucky we were there with you!! I can't imagine what they would have done to you if we weren't there!!!" he stared at me breathing heavily waiting for me to respond. Nick never gets mad, sure he gets annoyed sometimes but never mad. My mind was racing with apologies but all I could muster was simple 2 words, " I'm sorry...." Nick threw his hands up in the air and said, " I'm sorry!? That's all you have to say! I can't believe you Carly! You could at least say thank you from preventing an ass beating!" A lump in my throat came up as I tried to speak but only shaky words came out, " Thank you for being my big brother and protecting me." Tears welled up in my eyes realizing what actually could have gone wrong. Nicks' face dropped when he saw I was crying and immediately apologized.Nick reached out and hugged me tightly, his arms wrapped around me as shields of love, a hug so warm, " I'm sorry Carly you know I just want you to stay safe, if anything happened to you I would never forgive myself." Me and him held each other in silence the rest of the way home. His warm embrace felt like a heavy blanket keeping me warm and it made me fall asleep.
