"Have a good night!" I told the customer with a smile as I handed him his receipt.

"You, too!" he replied as he took the receipt, grabbed his bags, and walked towards the exit.

With that, I looked at my watch. 6 pm. Sweet! I turned off my register light and walked to the time clock. On the way, I passed by one of my supervisors and we both gave a smile and nod of acknowledgement.

"Have a nice night, Mike," she told me.

"You too, Allie," I replied.

With that, I made it to the time clock, punched out for the night, and exited the store.

The night was still young, as seen by the orange sun just barely floating above the horizon. The dark, backlit clouds up above gave off a beautiful contrast to the bright, colorful sky. Everything just looked so perfect.

I smiled as I got into my car and pulled out of the parking spot, finally ready to get home after a long day of work. I think Macey mentioned something about having chili for dinner tonight. Definitely looking forward to that! Thankfully, I didn't live that far away from the Walmart; it was only a 10 minute drive. Definitely helped save gas and time.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Are we sure we've got the right protagonist here? This is supposed to be Mike Schmidt, right? The lazy sack of crap who always saw everything in a negative light? Yet here he is, pointing out how good everything is. Well, I'm still Mike Schmidt, but I've definitely changed as the years went by.

After the quick drive home, I entered my apartment and instantly caught a whiff of some hispanic spices.

"Looks like you weren't joking about what we were having for dinner tonight," I called into the building as I hung up my jacket.

"One thing I never mess with," a female voice replied from the kitchen, "is Mom's homemade chili recipe."

"Fair point."

A took a peek into the kitchen and saw my older sister Macey stirring the pot of brown-and-red deliciousness. She looked over at me when she saw me.

"It's just about done," she told me with a smile. "Get into some comfy clothes and it should be done by the time you're back in here!"

"Roger that," I replied with a mock salute, to which she gave a small chuckle and put her attention back onto the chili.

As I walked into my room, I took my work clothes off and threw them on the floor. I definitely gotta remember to clean those this weekend. I then grabbed some sweatpants and a cutoff shirt and threw those on. Comfy yet casual enough for my liking.

I walked back into the kitchen and saw Macey pouring the chili into bowls.

"Told ya!" she replied as she handed me my bowl.

"Never doubted ya for a second!" I replied as I accepted my meal.

"Good! Now, get the TV turned on; we've got movies to watch and laugh our asses off at!"

"Hell yeah!"

I walked into the living room with my bowl of chili, placed it on the coffee table, turned on the TV, pulled up Netflix, and began looking for the first movie on the list.

"I'm just glad we finally managed to rank our favorite movies from least-funny to funniest," Macey commented as she walked in with her bowl.

"Yeah, it was a challenge, but I think we've got it down pretty good!"

"Alright, so what's first?"

"Sausage Party."

"Ooo! The perfect movie to watch while eating!"
