Macey and I walked out of the airport with our bags in our hands. I looked around at the early dawn sky and sighed.

"I always told myself I'd never come here again," I told Macey. "Yet here I am."

"Here you are," she replied as she pulled out her phone.

"You still haven't told me who's picking us up or where we're staying," I continued. "You just said you would find someone."

"You're right," she replied as she typed something into her phone, presumably a text.

She was then silent, as if there was nothing else to say.

"Well...?" I asked.

She then groaned and looked at me with nervousness.

"Please don't hate me," she told me as she put her phone away.

"...why would I hate you...?"

"Because-"

That's when we heard a honk in front of us. We turned and saw that a car had pulled up. It was a car, though, that was instantly recognizable.

"No!" I gasped in realization as I turned to my sister. "You wouldn't!"

"She's the only one who was available," she replied as she walked towards the car without making eye contact at me.

I groaned and followed behind her. She opened up the passenger side door and entered the car. I opened the back seat and sat inside, trying to not let my frustration show.

"Hey, Carmen!" Macey told the slutty driver with a joyful tone. "Thanks for doing this. I know it's last-minute, but-"

"Don't worry about it, Macey," Carmen replied in an equally happy way. "Anything for my favorite cousin!"

Carmen then looked into her rearview mirror and stared at me with those soulless eyes. Her tone completely shifted as she did.

"Michael," she simply said in acknowledgement.

"Carmen," I replied just as monotone.

"I hope we're not being a bother," Macey continued. "We promise it's only for the weekend."

"Don't worry about it," Carmen repeated. "You can take my guest room, and your brother can take the couch."

"The one with the cushions that are harder than diamonds?" I asked.

"That would be the one!"

"Love you too, Cuz..."

"Mike, you can take the guest room," Macey piped up. "I'll take the couch."

"You sure?" I asked.

"Of course. I don't mind."

"Sweet! Thanks!"

I then gave a small grin of victory to Carmen, who I could tell was a little pissed. That only made me happier.

"Anyway," Macey told us both, "what do you say we all grab some breakfast? That flight made me hungry."

"Sure," Carmen replied as she put the car out of park and drove forward. "Anywhere in particular?"

"How about Maggie's Diner?" Macey suggested. "It's one of the few things I missed from this town."

Carmen looked at her car's clock and gave a small shrug.

"It should be opening up right about now, so let's do it!"

"Sounds good," I commented as I smiled and yawned. "Maybe I can get some more rest by the time we get there."

"Good," Carmen replied. "The more time you spend not being annoying, the better."
