I took a deep breath as one of the girls rose from the couch, a girl with long, milk chocolate brown wavy hair, a round, babyish face, and interesting eyes. They were like brown and green at the same time. She smiled, stepping closer and extending her arm, holding out her hand. I took it and we shook hands. Her grip was strong, her body shape a little curvy but she could obviously take someone down in a fight. She stood tall and proud, confident in herself. She wore a black, gray, white and purple striped short sleeved shirt, and casual blue jeans with worn-out but still in good shape sneakers. She put her hands in her front pockets and said, "hi! I'm Kitty. What's up, my dude?" I flinched. I didn't wanna be associated with the word "dude". It make me uncomfortable.
"Well, uh..." I started, but Alex stepped forward and cut me off.
"It's alright, Kitty uses things like dude and bro as gender neutral terms. But, Amanda is a trans girl, so let's lay off the gendered nicknames for now, sound good?" Alex crossed their arms over their chest, and I smiled.
"Oh, sure. Sorry, didn't know, but I'll try," Kitty nodded and drifted back over to the couch, where a dark-skinned girl was laying down, eating chips off a paper plate. She had a shirt similar to Kitty's, except it was in bright pink, green, and blue.
"Uh, hey, Kitty?" I spoke up. She turned, eyebrows raised. "Um... I like your shirt," I said shyly. She smiled.
"Oh, thanks! We all have our customized to reflect our sexuality. I'm asexual, and Lana here is polysexual." Lana, the dark skinned girl, waved, her mouth still full of chips.
"Uh... That's cool, but what's asexual? Or polysexual?" I felt stupid for asking, but I genuinely had no idea. Kitty laughed, and Lana swallowed, rising to a standing position.
"I can explain," Lana set down her plate on a table. "Asexual is when the person does not experience sexual attraction. At all. Polysexual is when the person experiences attraction to some, but not all genders. Different from pan and bi, but similar." Kitty nodded, and Alex put their arm around my shoulder.
"Now! Enough explaining and introducing. Time to show you how the LGBT club parties!"
