Sergantis sat in the thick of one of the tangle of people. He looked around with his ears twitching on top of his head. He let his senses run wild. He was able to pick up any scent that he wanted to and that had only been enhanced over the years. He felt a strange tangle in his stomach when he saw the man that he had been watching for moons, walking in front of him.
He looked a lot different than when Sergantis had watched him when he was a neurosurgeon. His hair and beard was overgrown while his hands shaking madly as he walked. He had a small bag with his clothes probably in it, but he just looked lost. Something pulled Sergantis toward him, but he wasn't sure if it was out of liking or just plain pity.
"So that's the man that you've been tracking," purred Indarra as she strode forward and brushed her fur against Sergantis's flank. Sergantis shrugged her away, but Indarra was unfazed. "Doesn't look very impressive to me."
"He's lost, Indarra. We've all looked like that when we first came to the Temple," explained Serantis as he rose to his paws.
Indarra's eyes widened in shock. "Even you?"
"Even me," echoed Sergantis as he padded forward, making his way through the tangle of people easily. His fur rippled along his spine as he continued forward with his paws tensed as he walked.
"The man is trying to talk in the native Nepal language," snorted Indarra in deep amusement. "He's not going to get anywhere with that."
"Then let's help him."
Sergantis bounded forward and came over to the man. Sergantis slammed his head against the man's leg and the man nearly fell over. Sergantis bounded forward a few paces and turned to look over his shoulder at the man. The man looked at him as if he was a crazy stray.
Sergantis looked at him before she started to bark loudly. The man looked a little disconcerted as he dug into his pockets and brought up a crust of bread. He tossed it to Sergantis and Sergantis tilted his head. He certainly wasn't going to eat something like a stray, but he wasn't sure how to get the man to follow him.
"That's all that I have," the man croaked as he lifted his hands. They shook madly and Sergantis looked at them intently, his whiskers slightly twitching. He knew that he was the one.
Sergantis continued to bark. The man looked at him in pure agitation, but it didn't seem to bother Sergantis. Sergantis came back over to him and threw his head sideways since barking wasn't getting him what he wanted, or what he needed. He continued to flick his head before he stood firm, just panting a bit in the Nepali heat.
"D-Do you want me to follow you," the man finally asked.
Sergantis straightened, letting out a noise between a whimper and a growl. He bounded forward and the man rushed to keep up. "Wait! Slow down!"
Sergantis didn't say anything more as he bounded forward, picking up the pace as much as he could. He looked over his shoulder periodically to make sure that the man was still following him. However, he suddenly realized that he wasn't and a growl of agitation rolled in his throat.
"Looks like you lost him," joked Indarra as she leaped down from one of the many balconies that was just above Sergantis's head. "You're going to have to get him back."
Sergantis grunted to himself as he sniffed the air. He picked up the man's sweaty and lost scent before he followed it. He headed down an alleyway and saw that he was just about to make an awful mistake. His ears shoved forward as he stalked around, listening to what he knew was about to unfold.
"Look, I don't have any money. I don't have anything," the man argued as he lifted his shaky hands in a bit of a surrender.
That's not going to get you anywhere fast, thought Sergantis as he raised an eyebrow at the man's approach.
