[45 MINUTES PRIOR TO CHAPTER 9]

after the moment of panic, lily had been absently staring out the window, noah's hand still clutched in hers.

she found it quite embarrassing, to just lose it like that, even though the others, especially finn, knew it was just a natural thing for her.

so she became distant. staring out the window absently, refusing to release her tight grip on noah's hand. all three of her friends shared nervous glances towards her.

"hey lils," noah finally said calmly, catching her attention. "are you okay?"

lily thought about the question. she was fine, but just needed a cool down period almost.

she nodded slowly and her friends still looked unsure. finn sighed and pointed to noah's seat.

"can we talk for a second?" he asked and they both nodded and then shifted around until they were switched.

"alright, i know how you're feeling right now, trust me, i do, since i deal with the same thing. but it's nothing to be embarrassed about. the best thing to do right now, for you, noah, and meli, is to pretend like it never happened. they'll know you're okay, and you'll relax." he finished, proving a great deal. "can you do that?" 

she nodded, suddenly feeling selfish for putting them on edge.

finn happily hopped back to his seat and noah racing back to his. a smile plastered on his face at the sight of lily facing the group.

suddenly, a small ding rang through the plane causing them each to jump in their seats.

"alright passengers, we will be starting our descent shortly, so please fasten your seat belts."

they each settled and shifted to a point where they'd be okay with for a few moments while they landed.

a pit settled in the kids stomach as they began to grow closer to the earth. amelia's hand shot to finn's in search of support.

"you scared?" he asked her, squeezing her hand in the process.

she glared at him out of the corner of her eyes.

"i told you." she stated simply, holding his hand tighter. "i've never been on a plane before." 

the plane shook slightly and she let out a sharp breath and clung to finn's arm, causing him to let out a giggle.

"relax meli," he pulled her into a side hug. "i have gone on many, many planes before and this has been such a smooth and safe ride."

he felt her small body relax slightly under his arms causing him to smile.

meanwhile, it was he opposite only inches away from them. 

"mr.schnapp," lily squealed in surprise. "are you scared?"  she asked, noticing his tensing body and his tightening grip on her hand.

his cheeks flushed a rosy pink.

"maybe..." he said, knowing she would understand that he was, but not wanting to admit it out loud. she giggled and put her other hand over her own and noah's.

"it's okay. i am too." she said, resting her head on his shoulder.

noah smiled feeling lily's warmth as a comfort.

"we're almost there." finn whispered into amelia's hair as he saw them near the ground.

as they all braced for impact, finn and noah's phones began to buzz non-stop. they then hit the ground gently.
