"I leave for two months and, when I come home, you're engaged?"
I looked up meekly at the beautiful redhead towering over me. She looked down at me, her hazel eyes filled with anger and hurt.
"I couldn't reach you! I had no choice but to wait for you to come back, Mel," I answered with a pout. She sighed and fell on the couch, resting her head on my shoulder.
"Livy, you're getting married," she sighed. "Not only that, but to a Harper."
"Yeah, I'm still getting used to it," I said with a sigh.
Amelia, my best friend since we were in diapers, sighed yet again. When I came home from work, I found her waiting for me in our shared living room. She sat there with her bags next to her feet, a frown on her face. I only had time to take a seat before she started the interrogation.
For the past two months, Amelia has been traveling. She's an interior designer and often travels for work or to look for artistic ideas. So far, she's been to every state in the US, as well as many places out of the country.
"Your new hubby is such a hottie, too," she sighed dreamily. I frowned and flicked her head.
"Stay away from my husband, you flirt," I said playfully. Her hazel eyes looked hurt and offended at the comment.
"I would ever!" she exclaimed dramatically. She grinned and stood up, grabbing her bags. "All joking aside, I want to meet this Elijah Harper immediately. And I want in on your wedding."
"Well duh," I said rolling my eyes. "You are my best friend and maid in honor. Plus, you're wickedly talented in these types of things."
"Awe, my Livy-poo!" she yelled hugging me. I shooed her off as I helped her lug her bags into her room.
I then left her to unpack and rest up from her flight home, retreating into my room. Grabbing my cellphone, I texted Elijah to see what his plans were tonight. When he didn't text back immediately, I shrugged, assuming he was busy in some meeting. Feeling the exhaustion from being around the kids, I laid my head down and dozed off.

I jolted up at the sound of my phone ringing. I felt disoriented and searched frantically for the ringing phone. I finally found it under my pillow and managed to answer before the person hung up.
"Hello?" I answered breathlessly.
"You never texted back," Elijah said.
"I fell asleep," I said falling on my pillow. "Are you finished with work?"
"Mhm, I just left. Why? Do you miss me?" I could practically see the arrogant smirk on his face.
"Maybe," I said smiling. He grunted and I laughed. "My best friend, and roommate, just came home. She wants to meet you."
"The one that was traveling, right?"
"Mhm." He was silent for a while, that I thought he had hung up.
"Can I come over tonight?" he finally asked.
"Yeah, of course," I said grinning. "I'll make dinner. Are you staying over?"
"You mean, will I miss a chance to lay next to a beautiful woman?"
"I take that as a yes," I said chuckling. "I'm going to let Mel know now. Call me when you get here."
"Alright."
We hung up and I quickly got out of bed. I walked to Mel's room, to find her sitting on her bed, texting furiously. I knocked and she jumped at the sound.
