I took the long way to my locker so I can avoid running into Seth on the way, but no such luck, he was right there, standing next to my locker, looking like his adorable self, but I wasn’t going to fall for that again. I walked up to my locker, purposely not paying attention to him, opened it, pulled out my math book, and walked to class. I knew this was going to be hard, especially since Seth was in 4 of my 7 classes, but I was just going to have to deal with it.
As I was walking to class, I could feel someone behind me, but I didn’t want to turn around, our school was already full of creepers. I tried to walk faster but my stalker matched my stride. I ended up stopping and turning around, it was Seth, typical.
He opened his mouth to say something but I out my index finger up, which shut him up, and said, "Look Seth, whatever it is, I don’t want to hear it; so please stop following me, and calling me, and throwing pebbles at my window, I do not want to speak to you anymore."
And with that said, I walked away, leaving a stunned Seth standing in the middle of the hallway. I couldn’t just let him back into my life so easily, he had really broken me, I had trusted him, I had believed in him, and he had betrayed me, and for what? A slut that only likes him because he's a jock. I didn’t want to think about it anymore, it hurt way too much. I started thinking about the math test that I was already late for; the one I had not studied for at all last night, I knew I was going to flunk that test.
As I walked into my classroom, I was surprised to see the new guy in my seat yet another time, the only empty seat was the one next to him, so I went ahead and sat there. He turned to me, smiling, and said, "Hey Stacy? Can I borrow your notes for this class? I just realized that I've missed out on a lot."
I looked at him, he seemed friendly, he wasn’t being extra flirty or anything like the other jocks, I wanted to see what he was like, but I wasn’t going to take my chances with guys like that anymore. I slowly pulled my notebook out of my bag and handed it to him.
He reached for the notebook while I was still giving it to him, our fingers touched for a brief second, and I felt a bolt of energy rush through me; that was weird, it was probably just a electric shock, it was nothing.
I quickly pulled my hand away and didn’t look at Jayden throughout the class, we had a test anyway, so I was already preoccupied. By the end of the class, Jayden looked like he was contemplating whether he should talk to me or not. His eyes kept shifting towards me, then back towards the board.
When the bell rang, he walked up to me and asked, "Do you know where history class is?"
I was going there anyway, so I thought I might as well walk with him there. I pulled on his arm and walked him to class, feeling a little tingle where my fingers were wrapped around his arm. Girls were giving me death glares, and looking at where my fingers were, so I decided to put my hands in my pockets to avoid being hated by those monsters.
Jessica, the leader of the Slutty Cheerleaders group, as I liked to call them, walked up to Jayden and said, "Hey, you're the new kid right? Welcome to our school! If you need anything, and I mean anything, just let me know." She then winked and waved goodbye.
I was just glaring at her the whole time, the guy's only been here for a few hours and girls were already throwing themselves at him and giving him suggestive looks and things like that. At that point, I wouldn’t have been surprised if some girl randomly pulled him into the janitor's closet. I felt a tear fall down my check, then I realized it was because I remembered what Seth had done, I quickly wiped it away without anybody noticing and walked into history class.
I sat in my usual seat, next to Anna; she turned to me and said, "Hi Stacy, how are you feeling now? Any better?"
She didn’t sound very sincere, not like she really cared, she sounded like she was forcing the sweetness into her voice, and that just sounded plain fake. I didn’t know what was up with this girl, she's been so different ever since the beginning of high school, I thought it had been just a phase, but I guess she really did change, and I was slowly noticing those changes. She used to be the sweetest person I knew, but now, she's trying to be a lot like Jessica and her group of friends. It really pisses me off, since I've known her forever, and that was completely against all of our principles.
I turned to her and said, "Yeah Anna, I'm alright, it's nothing really, it's just, I didn’t expect anything like that from Seth. He was just so honest with me, you know." I knew I couldn’t completely trust her, especially since she had been hanging around Jessica a lot lately, so I planted a fake smile on my face that matched hers.
"I saw you walking with the hot new guy, what was his name, Jake, Josh?"
"Jayden," I corrected her.
"Oh, you already know him, I didn’t know that. I guess you never really cared about Seth anyway." She replied, giving me a smirk.
I couldn’t believe the way she was acting; I gave her a look of utter disbelief, and turned away. I knew that if I started speaking, this would turn into something big, and I didn’t want to cause a problem. I turned my attention back to Mr. Bradley, and ignored Anna's side glances and smirks. The next two classes passed by the same way, Jayden turned out to be in one of those classes too, but I also shared that class with Seth, so I decided to just sit quietly.
When the bell rang signaling lunchtime, it finally hit me that I had no one to sit with, I had been Seth Adam's girlfriend since the start of high school and I sat with him every single lunch, alongside the jocks and a few other girls. I bought a muffin and some apple juice and decided to sit on the table furthest away from Seth's view so I could be alone. I took my iPod out, and started listening to Broken Pieces by Apocalyptica featuring Lacey.
I subconsciously started humming to the song, but my humming came to a stop when I was surprised by a tray being set in front of me, I looked up and saw the beautiful green eyes that were Jayden's. I decided to be friendly and smiled, but I think it was a half-strained smile since I wasn’t really in the mood to smile.
"So, Stacy, mind if I join you?"
I chuckled a little and said, "Yeah sure."
He smiled and took that as an invitation to start talking to me some more. He asked me random questions and got me to laugh a couple of times; I felt really comfortable when I sat with him, and I felt easy going and careless, but I knew I couldn’t let myself tell him everything about me. I knew I couldn’t trust any person anymore until they earned it, and if Jayden wanted my trust, he needed to earn it.
