As Jason opened the car door for me, he checked me out for the hundredth time.
"What? You look cute in shorts." was his reply to my narrow eyed stare, which conveyed everything.
"'Cute'?" I asked, stepping out.
"Hot. Is your soul at peace now?"
"'Cute', would've worked just fine." I remarked, winking.
The decor left me dumbfound. Not because the scene particularly emblazoned, but because the alacrity of the students, to wield this outcome, showed. The dusky sky, ridiculously caught me gawking, as for the first time, the growing darkness didn't expose my fear. It exploited the latent parts of myself.
"Christie?" Jason asked, to shake off my transfixed phase.
"Yeah, sorry about that. I wonder, how come we aren't the cynosure, of every eye."
"They're used to it now, would be my guess." Jason said with a smile, which was enough to disperse my remnant thoughts.
Suddenly a thought struck me, and an expression of dread overcame me.
"What is it?" asked Jason, looking around for the source of my dreariness.
"What if Chase shows up? I can't handle him, anymore."
"He won't. 'Carnival' ; not his thing."
"If you say so."
"Hey, waddup Jay?" Came Carl Parker, followed by Jason's whole gang.
"Hey mate."
"Where have you been, man?" asked one of them. Stephen, maybe.
"Umn, just..." Jason shot a glance at me, then looked downwards, circling his feet.
"Our bud, blushing? Damn, Christina. What did you do?" asked Carl, fooling around.
I laughed at his remark. "The usual."
"Ooh." Hooted the whole gang, making us blush even more.
"And they call themselves 17." Said Ian.
"You guys have fun. Will catch you later, bud."
"Will sure do." said Jason, repressing his smile.
"They're good people." I said, genuinely.
"Yes, they are. I would love, for all of us to hang out."
"Sure.I'm hungry, though. Let's go eat something?" I asked.
"Sure babe."
We headed towards the 'Make the muffin' stall, which was adorned in the most fairy-like, cliche manner.
"Hey Jason." Jessica greeted him. She was one among the members of 'Christina-hate-club', and 'Jason-fan-club'.
"Hey, Jess. Could we possibly get two cappuccino muffins?"
"You've gotta decorate it, hon." Jess replied. I remained non-existent.
"Do me a favor, babe, and just hand them to me?"
Jessica smirked and handed them to him, at that instant."Ahem, 'babe'?" I asked,as we walked away.
"Jealous much?" He remarked, smirking.
Just then a message flashed on my screen, which literally sent a jolt down my spine. Hopefully, Jason hadn't seen the contact name.
"What is it?" Jason reacted to my fear.
"Nothing, just a text from Mom."
"Okay." He said laughing. His laugh urged me to die. Not just because it was so original, but it made me feel guilty.
