Chapter 1: Future Hokage

It was hard. Even you had to admit it, to live without the parental guidance most kids your age felt they didn't need nor wanted. But, it felt so different to know you were going to grow up without them by your side. Holding your hand every step of the way.

You hugged yourself with a frown as you walked down the village street's, you didn't bother looking at anyone. These people didn't know the meaning of sympathy or even compassion for that matter.

You were young and alone and afraid. You lived alone with no one to help you pay rent especially since your housing was payed for by the hokage himself.

After the death of your clan, leaving you vulnerable and parentless, the hokage took it upon himself to provide you with enough money to pay for your housing at least until you were able to pay for it on your own.

Obviously due to you being but a child, you couldn't physically touch the money. It was in a savings of some kind and you guessed the hokage was the only person allowed to touch it and your landlord, of course.

You were headed to Ichiraku's Ramen shop currently, it was your favorite place to go in the village and you absolutely adored the owner. He was one of the only people that had ever bothered to talk to you besides the Hokage himself.

"Teuchi!" You cried in delight as you entered the shop jumping get onto one of the chairs available.

You saw the owner of the shop turn towards you and a smile immediately lit up his face "(y/n)!" The older man cried spreading out his arm's slightly to indicate his surprise.

"What a pleasant surprise! What brings you here?" He asked with a pleased grin, his kitchen knife in hand and chopping away a few carrot slices and onion's.

You smiled brightly at him shrugging "I was in the area." You answered him before asking "So do you have any Miso Ramen left today? I've been dying to have some" you said to him and Teuchi laughed before nodding.

"Coming right up" he said to you and you beamed at him before he began cooking.

He was only cooking for a few moments when you saw a flash of orange and a figure pulled up onto a chair next to you "Oi! Old man! How's it going? Three orders of Miso Ramen!" You heard the boy yell proudly holding up three fingers with a big grin.

You turned towards the exuberant boy with a curious look before your eyes go slightly wide as you take notice of the three marks on each side of his face. He grins widely as Teuchi smiles at him with a nod as he chuckles "Hello Naruto. I'm fine actually, we've been expecting you" Teuchi said chopping scallions expertly.

The boy, now known as Naruto, smiled at Teuchi "Nothing beats Ramen! "He said with a look of hunger as he groaned hungrily after his shout.

You couldn't help but, chuckle at his exuberance and that made Naruto look in your direction "Oi!" He suddenly shouted and you jumped before looking at him.

He was looking at you. You took in his appearance. He was tanned and had spikey golden hair that stood up in random places. He had green goggles on his forehead just above his eye's. He was cute and that was a surprise to you, you've never actually took interest in any boy ever.

You chuckled nervously raising a hand as a slight wave "Uh hi" you greeted him and Naruto looked at you his striking blue eyes wide and filled with wonder.

He held a blank dazed look for a while before he blinked once then twice before shaking his head and grinning and you while pointing his right thumb into his own chest "I'm Naruto! Naruto Uzumaki!" He introduced himself proudly and you smiled at him.

You put your hands in your lap "I'm (y/n). (Y/n) Oshiro." You introduced yourself with a smile.

Naruto smiled at you said so before his smile suddenly fades making your own go down as well and you tilt you head curiously "What the matter Naruto?" You asked him.

Naruto looks away from you and put his hands on the table waiting for his ramen noodles with a pout and his mood suddenly deflated "What? Are you gonna laugh at me yet? Or kick me? Or even try to shove me down? What are you waiting for anyway?" He asked you glancing at you with a slight glare.

You frown before crossing your arm's clearly upset "What make's you think I'd do that? We just met and your already critiquing me?" You asked him with narrowed eye's as your temper flared to the surface.

Naruto looked down before he sighed "Well...everyone else always does. And I guess..." he didn't finish and you slowly began to realize he didn't have to.

Your arms dropped to your lap once more before you sat silent for a moment looking down. It took you a moment to glance up at Naruto who looked down into his lap his head on the table. You began to realize, he was like you.

An orphan. Abandoned. Outcasted by the villagers.

Alone.

You hesitantly reached out to him putting a hand on his own linking your fingers with him slightly awkwardly but, it got his attention. His head rose and his eye's were wide as he looked from your entwined hands back up to your eye's.

He seemed to shocked to speak so with a reddened face and your hands figeting you said "I understand what it feels like...to feel like no one's on your side. To feel alone in this. In whatever your going through. I'm sorry about your loss and pain. I'd never..." you whispered looking down unable to meet his eye's.

You were telling a perfect stranger everything and it freaked you out and yet you felt like there was such a relief coarsing through you.

Naruto didn't speak for a long moment and you took it as a sign, you blushed in embarrassment. You felt stupid all of the sudden, he probably didn't feel that way at all and yet you probably made a fool out of yourself expressing your feelings of loneliness and desperation to a stranger.

You pulled away quickly putting your hands in your lap tightly gripping your fingers "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...uh um" you began but didn't know how to end.

There was a long silence and you've never felt more stupid in your life until you heard a slight chuckle next to you and you could almost feel his grin as it spread across his face.

You felt his hand around your own before you could turn towards him again "I'm gonna protect you from this day forward!" He shouted to you proudly. You stared at him with wide eye's gaping at him slightly and he only grinned at you his eye's closing and you knew he was completely serious.

"Does this mean...." you began and Naruto's grin faded slightly as your smile begins to appear.

"You'll be my friend and I'll be yours" you said with a smile and you watch as Naruto's smile became as wide as ever.

"You bet! And in the future you'll be with me as I ascend to become the future hokage! " Naruto yelled proudly putting his hand up his pointer finger pointing upward.

You giggled at him "You better be becuase I know you'll be the greatest" you said and Naruto almost seemed to gasp before he wrapped his arm's around you.

You didn't expect it and you both turned in the chair and fell off the chair to the ground. You laughed as you both groaned from the tall but, Naruto helped you rubbing the back of his head "Sorry (y/n)-Chan!" He apologized and you giggled before wrapping your arm's around him.

You felt Naruto stiffen slightly before he wrapped his own arm's around you "Your...you my first and only friend" Naruto whispered and your eye's widened slightly before they saddened and you held him tighter.

"I'll always be your friend Naruto. Always" you said to him and you felt his smile as he leaned into the crook of your neck.

You both sat together after that, your Miso Ramen ready and you were both digging in. Naruto, you found, was extremely funny and enjoyed pranking. You quickly discovered that he loved attention.

He gazed at you absent-mindedly as you laughed at his joke before slurping up a string of ramen. You giggled before he dove into his own plate messily.

You didn't realize how much Naruto would impact your life when you ran into him that day. He'd be your reason to fight. Your motivation. And the love of your life.
