Chapter 4: Genin

You walked into the classroom, Naruto hot on your tail. You giggled as he caught up to you, you had warned him you'd leave if he wasn't down the stairs before his alarm went off for the sixth time in a row. He however thought you were bluffing until he spotted you calmly walking down the road towards the academy. He raced after you clearly upset about being left to walk alone although he ran the whole way to get to you.

"Thanks for leaving me (n/n)" Naruto pouted before smirking remembering you hated the nickname and walking past you before you could say anything back.

You glared at the back of his head before lunging at him nearly knocking you both down the stairs as you crashed into your seats "I told you I don't like that name! Just like you don't like it when Sasuke calls you a 'dobe'." You said to him plucking his forehead with a sly smile.

Naruto growled "Hey! Who cares about that teme Sasuke! It's not like he's important anyway!" He said crossing him arm's before glaring up over at Sasuke who sat across from you.

You giggled at him before smiling softly at Sasuke who only narrowed his eye's before nodding and turning away from you.

That's when you saw Iruka sensei enter the classroom making everyone's heads turn and silence came quicker then usual "Good morning Students. As you all may know. The exams start today" Iruka started looking around at his students.

Your hands found one another before wrapping theirs fingers together in a tight grip, you were nervous of course. This exam is the only thing standing in your way of becoming a true Kunoichi and Naruto's destiny to become the next future hokage. You glanced towards Naruto and although he appeared to be shaking nearly unnoticeably but, as long as you've known him you could always tell. His intense stare and posture radiated confidence in every way and that's always been something you've admired in the whiskered blond ever since you met him.

"The Exam will be tested on the Clone Jutsu Technique--" you didn't hear the rest only saw Naruto visibly stiffen beside you. You had told him to study the jutsu not becuase you knew what was going to happen but, becuase it was literally Naruto's worst jutsu no matter how much time he put into studying.

You put a hand over Naruto's and there was a tug on the corner of your lips as he calmed slowly at your touch before he sighed slowly with a small puff of air.

You looked forward once more to listen to Iruka "Now. Everyone will be called in one at a time in order for us to determine our next Genin" Iruka said with a smile his hands on his table before he nodded and left the room.

One by One. Names were called. And students got up.

"You'll do great. Just remember what we studied" you said to Naruto and you saw him look away in slight embarrassment but, you knew he was shaking in his shoes.

"I'm Naruto Uzumaki! I won't be beat by some stupid Exam!" He shouted confidently his arm's crossed and a smirk on his face.

"Uzumaki Naruto!" You heard making you and Naruto look up in surprise and you noticed that most of the room had ben cleared already.

"I'll see you when the exams are over" you said to Naruto as he rose from his seat. He nodded with an encouraging smile before he sent you a thumbs up on his way down the pair of stairs. You copied his movements before watching him walk down the stairs to the other room.

"Clone Jutsu!" You shouted your hands up producing the proper symbols as you were surrounded by a huge puff of smoke. You put a hand on your hip with a overconfident smirk forming on your lips.

You had transformed into Naruto Uzumaki. You smiled up at Iruka-sensei. Naruto had already gone out of the school and he must be waiting to go to Ichiraku's with you to celebrate.

You assumed Iruka-Sensei would smile at you indicating that Naruto had did well as well as been proud of you but, the moment the smoke cleared and he caught sight of Naruto's blue eyes that were actually your's his smile faded.

There was a small poof of a smoke once more and you were back to your original stage. You looked up at Iruka confused as he picked up the headband to give to you. Mizuki, another Chunin teacher in the academy stood beside him but, he had a smirk on his face that he was trying not to show, you glanced at him and he noticed giving a small wink in your direction making you frown.

You took the headband in your hand as Iruka placed it in yours before you looked from the headband up to Iruka "Naruto?" You asked him and you knew he knew what you meant.

Iruka sighed before shaking his head making your eye's widen.

"No. Iruka sensei! Naruto worked hard for this, please reconsider! He's meant to be a genin, I know it!" You cried as you begged Iruka but he shook his head. His head dropped down sadly "Forgive me but, I just can't" he said before turning from you.

You watch as Iruka walks back into the room to test the next student and you stumble backwards as realization comes to you. You look down at your new headband and suddenly...it means nothing to you.

If Naruto wasn't beside you...you didn't want to be a Ninja. The only reason you had even decided to was to be with Naruto, protecting him, aiding him in anyway way you could.

You hold back tears. Not for you but, for Naruto.

It's been his dream. His life long goal to become Hokage. To become a Ninja. If he really didn't pass the test then, he can't become the future Hokage.

You sigh and lean your back against the wall. There had to be something he could do. Something to be able to become a genin. You shook your head before an idea came to your head and a smile came to your face before you rushed out of the building. You ran through the mass of students who were gossiping loudly about their new achievements.

You pushed past adults and students trying to find Naruto "Naruto?!" You cried into the mass of people looking around. You bumped into numerous people and avoided the adults as best you could.

You jumped alittle trying to see over the sea of people before you smiled in relief catching sight of Naruto on the swing. You waved your hand towards him "Naruto!" You cried but, he didn't see you. And it took you a moment to realize why. Your smile faded as you catch sight of Mizuki standing next to Naruto. They seemed to be talking about something. You frowned and then you started to rush through the crowd.

You didn't trust Mizuki. He may be a teacher in the academy but, that didn't mean you had to like him.

You lost sight of Naruto as the adults block your view. You shove between them in a last effort to get to Naruto and nearly stumble to the dirt before you regain your balance and look up.

You look in disdain as you see the swing empty and Naruto and Mizuki are gone.
