No one went near Maria's room for the rest of the day, not even Sebastian. He didn't know exactly what had happened, but he sensed that Maria needed space for a while before he went to talk to her.
He was right, Maria did need space. Once her sadness and shock over Samuel's death faded slightly, pure demonic rage replaced it. She hated whoever planned this, she hated the one who had killed the kind Fallen, and she hated all the corpses lying on the front lawn.
It was all their fault, it was all their fault, it was all their-
It was all her fault.
Maria hated herself in that moment. She wondered where she went wrong in life. When was the exact moment that doomed her life to the failure it was now?
She was doomed to this life the moment she stepped out of the carriage in front of the Phantomhive manor years ago. God, it felt like a millennium had passed since then. This never would've happened if she hadn't met Ciel and Sebastian.
Despite this fact, she couldn't hate them or blame them for her shitty life. Even though there was a seemingly never-ending spring of troubles bubbling up, there was also some amazing positives that went along with them. Without Sebastian and Ciel, she never would have grown into the person she was today, she wouldn't have met the other fantastic beings in her life like Zeke, Ronan, and Samuel.
She never would have learned to love.
And now that she knew that love, the love she had for Sebastian, Ciel, and the others, she knew she had to end this long overdue battle.
Maria spent the rest of that day standing in front of a mirror, planning her strategy for the coming night. Sebastian wouldn't like it, especially since he would not be involved. Maria had to make sure he and Ciel didn't come. She was doing this to protect them, just as they had tried so hard to protect her already.
Maria gazed at her reflection in the mirror, watching as her eyes turned red. It was becoming easier to control, this strange new power of hers. She had a weird premonition that this power was not connected to her demon nature at all, but something entirely different. Either way, she knew that the only way to control Sebastian and Ciel would be by using her powers on them. As much as she didn't want to control them, she didn't have any other choice. I just hope they can forgive me.
Maria turned her gaze towards the window. Night had finally fallen, and she was ready. She stood and glided over to the door, feeling weightless and emotionless, sure of what she had to do.
The lock on her door clicked loudly as it unlocked, the sound seeming to echo throughout the silent house. As Maria drifted down the stairs she did a mental map of all the people in the house. First, she was sending the humans home. There was no need for them anymore, all of this would be over once the sun rose tomorrow. Sebastian would be in the study, most likely, and Ciel and Raoul would be in the sitting room. Luckily, Maria's path would not cross with any of theirs until she had given her command to the humans. Grell had returned from his Reaper duties briefly, but once he found out what had happened, he left. After all, Ronan wasn't around anymore, so there was nothing tying him to this battle.
Although it was dark outside, the three humans were in the kitchen chatting. As Maria stepped in, they stopped and looked at her expectantly. "Do ya need anything, Miss Maria?" Finny asked, giving her a wide, boyish smile.
"Yes. All three of you are to pack immediately and leave. Do not look back or think of coming back. Take the carriage." Maria's voice was flat as she spoke, and with blood red eyes she watched her command take effect. Wordlessly, the three people took their leave to go pack, ready the carriage and leave.
