Lurkingstar felt a paw in her side, and jolted awake. It was clearly early dawn, by both the sleepiness of the cat before her and the softness of the light entering the den. "What?" She asked drowsily. It was Duskpaw.
Something was wrong.
His ears were flat, his green eyes were wide and anxious, his grey tail was lashing, and his manner, she could see as clear as day, was panicked. His voice shook as he mewed "Lurkingstar! I know something to do with the murders."
She stood up too fast, so she was a bit dizzy when she spoke. "What?" She asked, confused. He looked nervously around, then whispered, "I know who it is." She nodded to him encouragingly. "It was...It was..." he broke off as two cats shouldered into the den, voices urgent.
"Duskpaw, do you mind if we speak to Lurkingstar?" Redflight said, and Littlefox nudged the tom gently out of the den. Lurkingstar looked annoyedly at them. "He was about to tell be something impostant about the murders!" She said, glaring at them.
Redflight seemed to not hear. "MountainClan is crossing the border." At this, the grey she cat's ears pricked. "Seriously? They're begging to be defeated. Greenstar wont make it through the next fight."
"Oh, she's dead! She died just a few moons after the fight." Came a loud, arrogant voice from just outside of the den. Her fur stood on end, it was Blueleap! She jumped to her paws, all sleepiness forgotten, and rage boiled in her greenish blue eyes. It was such rage that even Redflight and Littlefox backed away from her.
There he was, the foolish blue tom, standing a fox-length away from the den. Behind him was what seemed to be every warrior in MountainClan. All of them spread out in a pyramid shape.
"What," she said, almost nose to nose with the MountainClan deputy, "is the meaning of this, Blueleap?" At her loud words, GorgeClan began to emerge from their dens. Shock and confusion showed in their eyes, but then they began to growl menacingly. Bluebreak raised a paw, claws unsheathed, and Redstorm planted his paws, bent tail lashing.
He smirked, his orange eyes glowing with a pride that only a victory could bring out. "I'm here," he said his voice loud, but finished in a hiss, "for revenge." She tensed at his words, just as he leaped at her, spitting with anger and eyes boiling.
He had caught her off guard.
"Attack!" He yowled, landing on the GorgeClan leader with unsheathed claws. His blue fur was rippling in the slight breeze and his dark eyes practically dripped with malice. "By the way," he whispered into her ear,
"the name's Bluestar."
And that was the last thing she heard before he ripped her throat out.
