My Best Friend and I

There I was. Scaling a shelf in the middle of a grocery store and a perfectly gorgeous guy is standing there looking at me like I'm an idiot because I've already declined his help 4 times.

A year ago this is how my bestfriend told me I was going to be the cause of WW3. Except in his mind I was going to knock the shelves down, it was then going to hit some nukes and blow up the entire store. But here I was still wondering why there were nukes in the store and also how they got there.

Anyways, I gave up on the box of pasta sitting on the very top shelf. I settled for a pasta a little closer to my height and checked out. I put all of my things in the trunk of my red '69 beatle and hopped in. I looked at myself in the rear view mirror just to check and see if I had anythig on my face. By the looks I was getting I thought I had something on my face, but nope my face was perfectly fine.

I got back to my house and was greeted by my dalmation. Oreo was the only thing my dad left for me when he disappeared. When I was 9 my mother died from Leukemia, and my dad left me 2 years ago. No calls, emails, texts, not even any letters. Nothing. It was almost like he had dissappeared off the face of the Earth. I have an older sister of 2 years, Emmah Grace.

I'm 17 now and I've been getting along on my own just fine. I live in my house with my best friend, Mason, and my dog, Oreo. Tomorrow Mason and I are going to start our first day of our junior at Monroe High School. Emmah graduated last year and started going to the university a town over to study Special Education. She lives in an apartment across town and is so consumed with school and her new boyfriend, Scott, to even acknowledge my existance.

I woke up at my usual time, 6:17 am. It's weird to me to wake up on a quarter or half time so I made it a weird number. I always have to do little things like that or my day wont go right.

"ELLIEEEE!!!!!" Mason screamed at the top of his lungs from downstairs. I ran down as fast as i could, but not too fast that my clumsy self wouldnt fall on the way down. I walked down the stairs to find Mason already grubbing out on the pancakes and bacon. His light brown hair was still messy upon waking up this morning. He was so adorable, but of course I would never tell him that because he blushes like a little girl when a boy tells her she's pretty.

"I made breakfast for us as an early morning celebration for starting our Junior year of High School." Mase said while still stuffing his face.

"Aww. Thanks Masey Pooh."

It was almost like he never heard me calling him "Masey Pooh". He was probably way too busy stuffing his face to even pay attention. I swear that boy can eat as much as a cow but never gain an ounce. I knew he hated it when i called him that because he said it made him feel like he was a kid again and that was a tough time for the both of us.

We kinda had the same history. His dad died when he was 8 and his mom abused him ever since then so by the Court of Law he got emancipated and came to live with me ever since last year. I will never forget the day we met.

I stood there waiting for my teacher of my Culinary Arts class and this guy walked up. I immediately had a feeling in my gut that I NEEDED to be friends with him. I knew we could never be more than friends but I didn't care. He walked up to me and asked me if it was the 4th and 5th Block class for Culinary Arts 1. I politely nodded my head becuase I knew I couldnt say a word. I was too busy thinking about what I did to deserve to have potentially have a friend in this class. I never had any friends because everyone was so scared of me in the first place. I guess being 16 and living on your own wasn't normal. I was classified immediately as "that weird girl".

Then our teacher Mrs. Daniels arrived at the door and apologized for being late and that said she had a meeting run late. We all got into the kitchens and were instructed to pair up. Everyone got their best friend as their partner and luckily he didn't have a friend in that class either. So by default we were partners. YESSSSS.

"Hi, my name is Elizabeth, but I go by Ellie"

"Hey, I'm Mason, and I go by Mason."

We spent the entire class talking and joking about. When we were cleaning, Mason and I were assigned dishes, so we went to the sinks and started. While washing he asked me if I had anyone to sit with and I told him I always sit by myself and he offered to sit with me. We walked to lunch and sat down on the hill in the court yard. That was the moment we became Best Friends.
