"Can I kiss you?"
He stood there, waiting for an answer. I've known Shawn for a few weeks now, but I didn't think he wanted to kiss me.
My lips wanted him, but my mind pushed him back. I'm 18. He's 21. He's famous. I'm not. I live in a small apartment. He lives in a huge mansion.
"Why?" Was all I could manage to say. 'Why?' How stupid did that sound!? He took a moment before stepping back. Realizing that I was uncomfortable.
"Because, Athena, I really like you. You're personality makes me smile and, you make me feel like I'm not alone, even if I've only known you a few months," he smiled, inhaling a sharp breath.
He held my hands, now making me face him. He was a few inches taller than me. I was only 5'9",making me smaller.
"I don't know, Shawn-"
"Please give me a chance. We can take things slow. I won't kiss you for another week, month, if I have to," he said, pleading. I giggle under my breath.
"That's commitment if you ask me. Not kissing you is really hard," he chuckled.
I take a deep breath. "I'm 18 and-"
"Please don't make this about age! You make me seem like a pedophile. Yeah, I'm 21. I'm old. Your point?"
"Do you like me just because you're not alone anymore? Do you like me just because I'm here and you don't feel forgotten?" I say, biting my lip and fiddling with my feet.
"What? No! Never. Listen, I had a date like, a week ago. She was terrible. This girl wouldn't stop talking about how wonderful I was about singing and traveling. I get that most people are wondering about my life and such, but she would ask a question, and leave no room for me to answer before moving onto a next question," we both laughed.
"I don't have to kiss you now, or ever. I just want you to be comfortable around me and not to leave me. I've had that happen too many times," he said, reconnecting our hands. I smile and look up.
"Shawn Mendes, you have my approval to kiss me, but only when I tell you to," I smile, raising my toes to meet his eyes.
"And does that mean-"
"No. Not now."
"Damn it," he said under his breath. I laughed and he smiled, wrapping his arms around my waist.
-----------------
"Gin," I say, placing down my cards.
"We we're playing Gin? No wonder I was losing," he said. I laugh and walk over to the pizza box, closing it and throwing it away.
"Want to watch a movie?" Shawn offers.
"I don't know. It's getting late," I look over at the oven clock. It read 11:42 pm. (23:42)
"We have off tomorrow. It's Friday. Come on. We can watch whatever you want to watch," he pleads.
"Fine. But no cliche 'oh I'm tired so I'm gunna yawn and put my hand behind her' move," I say, getting another water out.
"There goes my plan! You soiled it," Shawn yelled. I laughed and took a sip of water. We walked over and sat on the couch, putting on Netflix.
"Drama, action, scary, oldies-"
"Let's watch scary," I said.
"I've never met a girl who would want to voluntarily watch a scary movie. Especially with a guy in the room," he said, taken back.
"Well, I don't like them, but I find them enjoying to watch with someone else," I explained. He smiled. We clicked on a movie called 'Hush' and began to watch it.
"No, don't go out there. Nope. Stop it!" Shawn raised his voice, as if the TV could hear him.
"I knew she would run. I knew it. Classic horror film," I said.
"But she could've hidden! She should've!" Shawn screamed at the TV again.
"Yeah! But her phone doesn't work and she can't scream! She's deaf you idiot," I say at Shawn. We continue to watch the movie.
"You okay?" Shawn asks while I try to find a comfortable position.
"No. I think these shorts are cutting off my circulation. Damn high waisted shorts," I laugh.
"Here, I'll be right back," he said, getting up and pausing the movie. He went up his stairs, skipping some. He disappears and comes back down a few minutes later.
"They're probably big, but here. There's a bathroom down the hall to your left," Shawn said, handing me a sweatshirt and grey joggers.
I thank him and smile, walking down the hall, grabbing my bag as I do so. I walk into the bathroom, turning the lights on, and shouting the door. Just so you know, this bathroom was huge.
I take off my shirt and shorts, making me just in my underwear and bra. I put in the vanilla scented sweatshirt, the fabric falling almost to my knees. The pants on next, just fitting my waist just so the wouldn't fall down.
I put my clothes in my bag, also pulling out a hair tie. My computer still lay snug in the bag. I put my hair up in a quick messy bun and left the room, shutting the light off.
I walk out, setting my bag on the floor, like once before. Shawn looked up, speechless. I heard a faint whisper 'now it's gunna be really hard not to kiss you.'
"What was that?" I ask sitting down on the couch.
"You look cute in my clothes," Shawn smiled. I put my feet up on his lap, sprawling out. He laughed, and put his hand on my calf. He played the movie, once again watching the screen in front of him. I turned my head as well, paying attention.
Little did I know that my eyes started to drop, tiredness overwhelming me. A mix of the comfy couch and clothes made me drift off into a soft dream.
